Remember with shipping covers it isn't just a cost thing. Lots of the kids who staff up some boat dealerships aren't that organised and call the cover people 2 days before shipping to ask for the cover, by which time it is too lste. The manhattan 73 wanted a cover but the dealer/shipper asked so late that it wasn't possible. She is also going to Genoa so I'll see how dirty she is on arrival
These covers (made by the excellent Drift covers, in Bournemouth, contact Dan McGee)are carefully done things and Nautical your story about a cover ripping at sea wouldn't happen with one of these Drift covers. They are much stronger than shrinkwrap AND they are covered with a net which is their killer feature to stop them ripping. Pictures below, and remember the boat is covered in 150mm wide low tack thick plastic tape on all the edges and touchpoints, before the cover is put on
