Boat in build pics (2013 Fairline Squadron 78)

When it gets to Genoa I've got to remove the whole thing and fold it into a small enough parcel to fit on my aft deck (unless i find a convenient poubelle/skip just sitting there...). Quite a big job I can tell you. I'm praying for a dry day with no wind!

Sorry jfm but I had to giggle.............I had visions of the helicam rigging episode, yep, be careful and don't hold on too tight if it's windy.:D

jfm I have been following this thread and I just wondered how much fuel a yacht like Match uses when cruising and at what speed will she comfortably cruise at, also how much anchor chain do you have and what is the deepest water you anchor in down in the med

these questions may well have been asked already but it will take me for ever to read 1822 posts LOL

Shawn, I think JFM cruised M1 at 20 kn, consuming about 15 litres per mile. JFM has already clocked over 31kn in M2 while sorting the props. No idea how much anchor chin she has, but there is a fancy Dan vid camera focused on the anchor, so we can look fwd to a vid of the deployment and recovery. M2 has a lovely stainless steel shield on the bow to stop the anchor damaging the gelcoat. Great idea, and one I will replicate on my next boat.

Hi LB. She has 120m of 12mm lovely stainless chain, though the deepest I can recall anchoring in as 25m or so (Theoule, for the SoF guys), and 5-10m is much more usual at the nice anchorages in the Med. BTW, i dont particularly buy the 3x scope theory and am more in the 6x camp for overnighting, though of course if the holding is good and winds light I might reduce that to avoid swinging in a busy anchorage

I tend to cruise at 20-22 knots or so, if not pootling. she will cruise at 26 or so but the pace is more relaxed if you go slower and it's easier for people to move around the boat underway. We definitely don't sit still underway in this sized boat: there is cooking and laundry/bedmaking and stuff going on while underway, but it's easier at 20-22 than 26kts

Fuel burn is 15-16litres per mile light/clean and 18 heavy/fouled, erk. I have fancy instrumentation that divides litres per hour by SOG (or STW if I want) to give instantaneous lpm, and interestingly once you're on the plane, speed has no significant impact. It's almost proportional. So it does 16lpm at 20knots, and 17lpm at 28 knots. Sure lph rises as you open the taps, but SOG rises almost in perfect proportion

In the 1.5 seasons i had Match 1, she got thru about 70,000 litres of fuel, gweep. That means, for a boat this size at least, fuel burn is way bigger £££ than mooring, maintenance, depreciation, contrary to the view held by many that fuel burn is a small part of the total cost of boat ownership.

Yup Rafiki I will get around to a video of anchor launch+recovery as soon as I can - next week maybe. That little mod has worked out really well - I'm really pleased with it. anchor cams are the future! It was Hurricane's idea originally

Just looked at Marine traffic and she is now past Malaga on route to Majorca. Quick turnaround in Gibraltar around 8 hours.
Booked your flight yet John.;)

I haven't booked yet. I'm getting worried she will be early. ETA palma saturday noon means I have no idea when she will leave because it depends on whether they work sundays. Anyone know? Also I'm told she will double back to Gandia after Palma, presumably to collect cargo, which gives me a bit more time, but I'm not sure of the quality of that info and have my doubts. I'll ask shipping co tomorrow!

Here is a link to Apollogracht on Marine Traffic :
http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=245702000

Nobody has posted any recent photos of Apollogracht carrying yachts on her Marine Traffic page, and Andy had posted some nice photos on page 178 (if you are not logged in) of this thread showing Match being lifted on board the ship - I am sure that they would be worthy of inclusion in the library of Marine Traffic photos - how about it Andy?
Or John, would you like to post any on Apollogracht's page?

That's really cheap, I assumed £5-£10k.

:D :D It is a very fine cover MapisM, full marks to Dan at Drift covers. BTW, in answer to an earlier question, the net is not bonded. They apply the cover made from white plastic material, THEN they put the single piece of net over the whole thing and pull it tight, to protect the cover from ripping in the wind and to remove any stress from the seams in the cover. Smart way to do it imho

Much less than your boating budget MapisM :D A little bit under £1400

just out of curiosity, how many hours, and how many miles did you get for your 70,000 litre.
I think its great that they get used as intended, I am sure there will be a few parked up and hardly used.

Yep, thought it was too early for sums
Raf your maths is mental!

Of the 70k litres put in Match1, I only burnt say 63k, becuase I sold it full

IIRC, hours on sale were 268 (so that's 230 litres per hour average, which is right because it is a mix of slow running and 375 l/h cruising). Miles were about 3500nm but I can't remember exactly. That was in one+ season, Easter 2011 to June 2012

Since then she went to Italy, got shipped to Rotterdam, then cruised on own bum to Gothenburg in Sweden and I've lost track of her since then

Hi Jfm, interesting numbers, can you guesstimate the split between slow and cruising as if they are relatively evenly split it looks like slow running( which is what exactly?) = 90ltrs ph, fantastic for a 78fter!

Naah, 90lph is way too much even for a 78', at strictly displacement speed (which is bound to be in the 10 kts region).
At a guess, even all the 64 liters of diesel engines in M2 shouldn't burn more than 60 or 70 liters, at that speed.

Or less. My 53 footer is burning 16lph @ 9kts so I would guess that M2 would be burning 25-30 lph @ 10kts. Planing boats are very efficient at d speeds because they're relatively light and don't drag a lot of hull around

Agreed, coming to think of it I've probably been pessimistic.
Curious to hear what jfm will tell us about that.

Tbh i do not have those numbers off top of my head. But when I said above that the 268 hours was a mix of fast and slow running, you gotta remember that a lot of the slow running is at idle rpm in the marina and navigating along speed limit zones and stuff, ie 2-5knotsas well as the 8-11 knots pootling slow cruising

Yes, should have ignored until I woke up. Sorry:confused:
