Having just completed our first season with a powerboat in the UK we're looking for a second smaller day/weekend boat to keep at our holiday home.

Choice is limited to those on offer with local marina berth and so far I've found a 1993 Monterey 256 25 footer with single 4.3 lx Merc OD (100hrs) for around the equivalent of £ 20k or 1996 Gobbi 265 cabin with twin 200hp Volvo inboards (150hrs) for about twice the price.

Looking for safe all year round cruising around Malta only, with minimal maintenance .

Any views, warnings, theories or blatant prejudices gratefully awaited.

Given your choice I'd go for the Gobbi 265 cabin with twin 200hp Volvo inboards (150hrs) because of my envy of people with shafts backing into their Med stern to moorings compared to me with my twin Volvo stern drives. Also it should go well maybe 35 knots with a clean bottom. There is a european preference for Volvos against Mercruser so sell on will be easier.
