Boat Food, No Fridge

Buy a cheap cool bag from supermarket (ASDA) which fits inside the boats coolbox. This has extended the life of milk by at least 24hrs. We load up frozen Orange Juice etc and then top up with ice from the supermarket every 2 or 3 days. Everything has remained chilled for the duration.

Also you can buy packets of Thai Green Chicken Curry with a (room temp) life of 6 months.

You've probably heard enough on this subject! However, can't help marvelling at the number of people carrying those rigid ice-packs around. Freeze milk, juice or just water – at least you've a lovely iced drink when it melts...there's nothing more useless than a defrosted plastic pack! PLEASE join my one-person campaign to persuade shops at marinas etc to throw a few cartons of juice in among the ice-creams – have even offered to pay extra towards cost of electricity! Also dream of buying bag of ice that doesn't leak when melted (signal for food to instantly escape packaging & go for a swim...) Ship's emergency meal, esp. good for kids: jars of quality frankfurters (only glass allowed on board!) & tins of beanz. Can be eaten hot or cold with hunks of bread. But best tip is: INSULATE! Stash jumpers, blankets, towels – anything – round coolbox!! and open as little as poss. Cheers, Carrie
