Boat Cleaning \'Stuff\'

Me again!
Why is it that I am the only person ever cleaning my boat?
Why does it never get clean?
Does everyone else have some magical/expensive cleaner that actually works?
Or do they have really dirty boats?

So what should I use to clean everything (GRP)? (especially the black soot on the back that periodically builds up)----I KNOW I WILL PUT SOME SOLTRON IN!--------I DO HAVE SOME!!

Farecla G7, rubbing coumpound, commercial t-cut type material, used for polishing grp plugs/moulds.

Takes the top surface of, thus staining, just needs rubbing on with sponge, remove with electric polisher, then wax. It will retore a hull to as new, but must me well waxed after to seal surface.

Wait until force 6 forecast. Put on dry suit. Head out, smoking last ciggie for some time. Wait until dropping off particularly large wave, and once pointy bit of boat is aimed at bottom of next wave, open throttles wide. Surface for air, and restart engine with copious amounts of WD40. Repeat until surfaces clean.

Regular use of this cleaning regime ensures that stains don't build up, and any dirt is easily removed by just one or two immersions.

Head back to base, where nice chaps with forklift will haul boat out and powerwash any salt deposits off, while you go and buy dry ciggies to replace wet ones in pocket.

Return in time to see shiny clean boat being put back on stands

Great product for cleaning GRP is a product called "silky" which is sold at camping stores it's made for caravans only £2.99 a pot, much better than expensive boat products. Really brings out a shine easy to use at a fraction of cost.

This really does work

Y10 jelly. Clean boat as best as poss. Leave to dry. Apply thin coating of Y10 from tub. Leave for 15 mins. If your gel-coat was white, it will be gleaming white again. All stains gone inc. exhaust / rust stains / dirty estuary water stains. The whole damn lot! Remember to wash off thoroughly and wear gloves when using.

After you have done that, polish you boat with "Starbright" Teflon based yacht polish. Two coats and the brown stains don't come back.

Both of these products are available from good chandlers but they are both expensive - but they work - and if done thoroughly, you will only have to wipe and rinse off your boat even in the muckiest water. Good luck.
