i thought I had it done, Sold my last boat in 2010 so looking forward to getting a new boat, looked for 45 flybridge. Found Princess 470 1994 in EBY which i thought is perfect for me. negotiate the price to suit budget great, But a small problem. SWMBO said: too old too big..

OK back to drawing board Love the Fairline Phantom 40 most of them out of reach. looking at a Fairline phantom 38 2002 which is in budget but is it too small?

I love to anchor and live on-board for long periods...

So should I save up and get a 40 or 42 or get the 38??

What is the 40 42 got that the 38 does not apart from lots of space?

For 145/150 k a phantom 40 mark 2 are great value , they don't look dated at all and offer a great deal of boat fur the money .

Not a massive amount to choose between them and I guess it all comes down to budget.

The 40 is a more modern boat, so has a more modern feel inside and is very slightly bigger in all areas. Should also have more modern engines of course.

There is nothing wrong with a P38 and as you know they are in then£100k-£120k bracket (asking) where as P40s are still £150k at the bottom end as Paul suggest.

£30k difference pays for a lot of stuff and you still get a good boat. I personally wouldn't bother with the P42 as they are getting a bit old. There are a couple of P43s in Portugal which are less than £150k and could probably be bought very well if you have the time

Thanks guys, I quite like the 43's how much will it cost to bring them over? And will they be sun damaged?

Tom

I looked at all sorts abroad.

In my view fairlines don't stand well on the inside, sagging linings and faded cherry wood to name. Princess boats stand better to the hot climate in my view. You get what you pay for, in the end I bought a 10 year old one owner from new p 43 that's been in the Solent all its life, it doesn't have the med bits on it but the condition makes up for it.
Unless you can steal from a hot climate then don't expect a mint boat for little money, it just doesn't happen. It will also be yellow instead of white that's a fact, bring it back here and it will look like a wot sit in the woodpile.

Tom,

If you're looking to get something from the Med, you can get a nice 2002 AZ Evolution for about €170K less negotiation in South Italy ...

Bring her home for about €12K.... (on keel to S France, then truck to S UK... or save €1K and plonk her in the water N France and on own keel home)...

Nice boat but i think I lost my adventurous side, just want a boat to enjoy rather than ship and work on, Really fancy a Phantom 43.. One just might be going into EBY..

I will keep a look.....

Yes, plus the reflective windows I think.

Certainly well after 2002 anyway

Yes the first Evolution was in 2003 the Azimut 46. Then Azimut did a new Evo every year up to the 68 model.
AFAIK an Evo model was never produced for the 50, and any of the S models. In the big 55, 62, and 68 things get more easily recognizing because Azimut changed the three (55) or four part large vertical windows with the big flash fitted window.
There is a disadvantage in this though as unlike the vertical versions (which I prefare) they don't open. The 62 and 68 where also added with large view window for the VIP cabin to fore.
