Hello, I need to get some carpets made to protect the teak and holly floors. I'm in Gosport at Haslar. Does anyone know anyone near there?

Welcome to the forums -try your nearest carpet warehouse -in our case they're in a ' just out of town retail park ' next to Homebase - ask for waterpfproof ' Floatex ' carpet; can't say I like their new designs but they do the job.

Some years ago I bought an end-of-roll from one of the high street chains for £42 IIRC. It is 100% polypropylene - a cheap tufted pile carpet that is completely rot-proof. The first cut, using the original carpet as a template, lasted about eight years and I put the second cut in last summer.

We have some washable doormats from Ikea.
Stopping the grot in the cockpit is the way to go.

I do the same but just bought some off a roll of a colour that I liked and not to likely to show the 'dirt' !

I really want some carpets that have bound edges that l can put out when in harbour and roll away when at sea. The teak floors soon get scratched and marked if not covered. This means a fitted route, I'm sure there must be a specialist around here somewhere.....

Below Decks ( Carpets) ltd. Based in Poole but cover the Portsmouth area

You can even have the carpets made from a simulated teak deck material that'll match your existing floor

Many carpet suppliers will produce bound edges at reasonable cost I think. Ours is a much smaller boat but we obtained a good quality 'offcut' in a suitable colour, marked it to size for the saloon and had it bound.

It is a specialist service, there is a firm in Romsey who do this http://www.matfinish.co.uk/index.html

It is a long time ago but think this is who we use to regularly use.

I think there is a company in Chi which recently fitted a Carpet on a yacht at Haslar with teak and Holly effect and his crew seems happy with it . AatS you don't say your budget but the carpet was fairly expensive but then the ones supplied by certain yacht brands are in the luxury price space as well however it does provide a far better surface for the canine crew when below in terms of traction and less noise of claws on sole . Have you thought of asking at the Haslar office of any carpet contractors if you are looking for a prof firm like those mentioned in previous posts as they might know a few ? Be interested to know more of outcome as we might fit in cabins one day . Currently we use turtle mat when required which has advantage it can be easily washed if dirty . What might work is turtle mat on a roll?

FLOTEX. Nothing beats Flotex. It is called "carpet", for want of a better word, but is a very superior product. Millions of fibres electrostatically flocked on to a flexible fibreglass backing, with additional rubber as an option. Edge treatment is a snap off blade knife---not a fibre will be lost. Mine has been down for 25yrs and does not show any wear. Cut it to an exact fit, and it always will.
