Can anyone tell me about the spares situation for BMW 7hp diesels - I understand these engines are no longer in production.

Where can spares be obtained?
Are they outrageously expensive?
Is there a website or are handbooks available on this engine?

I am thinking of buying a boat with such an engine and I'm not sure whether it is as asset or liability. Advice gratefully received from existing/former owners.

I installed a genset some years ago that used a BMW diesel. As I remember it was a badged Hatz engine, you might chase up them for info. Good luck!

I took one of these engines out of my Halcyon 27 and threw it away--- it was seized solid, however I have still got the handbook and a workshop manual for it and you are very welcome to both

Probably a liability, based on the East German Hatz engine lots of trouble with the electrics i seem to remember.Try a plant hire company for clues about spares as thay were used a lot to drive small plant in hand start version, pumps and mixers etc.

P H Marine sell stuff for BMW D12s - I suppose they'll do stuff for D7s.

They used to be at Val Wyatt Marina,
Wargrave,
Berks.

I had one in my Sadler 25, they are certainly not made by BMW though. I always thought it was a good little engine, but it was old then (1994) Avocet gave you the correct place for spares, Wyatt marine or something-yes agree-expensive. I would probably just try to buy the boat at a reasonable price and budget on buying a new engine. I remember that mine, in the Sadler was very underpowered, in fact that's the maim reason I sold the boat. If its going OK, carry on with it for a while, but don't start the ,throwing good money after bad thing..
