Blue Angel, Rome Marseille delivery trip

sorry but not being a native speaker I have to ask,
is "shat" the past tense of the irregular verb "sh*t"?
and sorry to Bart for dragging the off-topic a bit more...

you can directly attach the marina fresh water line while you're moored, and turn off the onboard autoclave. Very convenient when staying moored for longish periods, 'cause you can avoid filling your freshwater tank and always have "fresh" fresh water, so to speak.

Great advice MapisM ! thank you !
Our Chef will Love it,
then she can fill the Bialetti with water from the tap,
instead of my carrying all these bottles of Evian.

hopefully you might get the time to put up some more pics later. Perhaps even some of the engine room and installations?

not many technical photo's made Callum, just one from the engine, not uploaded yet.
I'm thinking of making a Blue Angel Rebuyld thread
some plans are made, we already did the new winch and a invertor,
but better wait until later, as the forum might have had enough of Blue Angel this season :o

I remember when we first took over the Princess, the battery system took a bit of working out, and we got caught a couple of times with flat batteries. Even now there is always a constant 240 V supply to the chargers.

now I realise that I have disconnected the 230V supply to the boat, all systems are off,
I'm concerned that the battery's will be empty, and very difficult to charge after 5 weeks no usage, any idea / advice ?

first challenge will be to get "on" the boat, passerelle not working with the remote controll :o.
Should have thought about this better when I left.

I'm sure folks would find it interesting to see what needs replacing/repairing after 20 years of service, and the associated processes involved.
You tell a story well Bart, i think you would do a good job.

I guess it depends how shut off the systems are, how many amps are drawn to run the alarm etc.
Has the marina management got a key to the boat, could you talk them through finding your supply cord and activating the charger/s.

If everything is truly off, you will be fine. The tricky part is whether everything really is truly off. Are there things like hifi, illuminated displays in ovens, coloured indicator lights in control panels, etc etc that are drawing current? I find it hard ever to get my boat below 5 amps of 24dc current draw!

And now you know for sure that the teak is 12mm you know you can just sand it. ........ Just patch-repair the caulking if needed, then sand off 0.5mm, and the decks will look new

the caulking groofes were originally 3 to 4mm deep,
so now at some places the grooves are less then 1mm deep,
at some spots the caulking is gone,

was thinking of making deeper grooves, with a small electric cutter,
using a ruler or pattern, so that all grooves are equally spaced, and size, ...

what do the specialists think is the best method to restore the teak / caulking, how deep to cut these grooves, ?
have some guy's in Italy to do this work in winter time, but like to know in advance what's the best way to do this.

mooring places,

this winter the boat will be moored in Cassis,.... yes !
plan is to go there at least ones a month.
early next year I might bring her back to Rome for a major modif.; steps from the cockpit to the platform, and some others, tbc

for summer next year, we have made our mind up, and would like to moore her on cote d'azur,
We discovered that Nice airport has flights from our home area, so if somebody has good contacts /knows about available space or how to get it, in harbours around Nice or Antibes, ...

buying a berth is too early (both financially, and still don't know if we want to stay there for years / Croatia, ...)
any advice on finding a berth is welcome, did some phone calls about it,
got this answer from one:
I don't know yet if we have space next week, so don't asc me about next year :) :o

will work on this next month

Just use a router with a 5mm dia cutting tool. and set up a straight edge to guide it (piece of wood). Cut the grooves 5mm deep approx. Your deck caulking lines are straight, not curved like some boats, so this should be relatively easy

I have some sympathy for them. They get millions of phonecalls asking for berths, and many people don't understnad their predicament.

Take Antibes as example. 1200 berths, each of which is privately owned by someone. The marina has no stock/inventory of rental berths, but statistically 200 or so berth owners will not use their berth due to holidays, not owning a boat, new boat in build like me in 2010 season, moving off to Croatia or somewhere for the season, etc. The marina people will not know which berths are available in 2012, nor exactly how many, so they cannot issue any promises. As an example, my berth will be free for a while in 2012, but I have not told them yet. The technique therefore is to become "friends" so that you do get a berth. To do this you have to visit them and be very nice to them. When the 200 berths are aailable and you call them in April 2012, the "friends" get them and the emailers don't :-)

The honest answer is nobody really knows what will happen; but I for one am not worried.

Most of the leases are 'owned' by the local mairie/ council. It is very similar to 'copropriete' ownership that is so popular in France for domaines/ apartment blocks. The same leasehold agreement is in place for all of these SoF marinas -- there are even (allegedly) examples of the wrong port name being on some documents.

Given that the marinas were all built over a very short period, everyone seems to 'know' that the leases will be renewed ..... maybe there will be a token 'extension' payment, who knows?

What we do know is that 'prices' are still edging up and I just can not see the likes of Roman Abramovic et al being turfed out based upon highest bidder or similar.

I 'think' the first one that comes up / expires is Beaulieu so that will give us some idea of what will happen.

On Special request from waterbird, (question in another thread)
