Well thought I had bought another boat last Fri,Broker willing to underwrite my boat against my purchase gave me a reciept for my deposit with details of sale, said to bring my boat over today, gave them a call spoke to his partner who fobbed me off not to bring my boat down today as they had not got the ok from the sellers about underwriting my boat! and the deal was not yet worked out .
When the broker agreed the deal he said they themselves were going to underwrite it, is my receipt not worth the paper its written on!! the cynic in me says he has a better deal !! I am awating a call to see what other bullshit he comes out with!! feel better for that rant!!

Your paper could well be construed as a contract, suggest a quick visit to a lawyer. I dont know the law well enough, but if they have sold it on to someone else, it may be that they not only owe you for the inconvenience , but also for the profit (i.e. difference between what you were going to pay, and what they sold it for ) - worth a try at least.

I had a similar experience. Broker agreed to actually buy my boat from me at a slightly reduced price than the going one, fine I thought because he was brokering the boat that we wanted. Nice and simple.
Broker tells me how much he'll give me for my boat and I agree a price, through him with the owners of the other boat, great.
Next day I get a phone call from him asking if he was selling my boat for me. "No" I said "you said you where buying it from me". "Well I didn't actually say that, I said I could sell it for you".
Sorry, but I know the difference between buying and selling and he said he would buy it from me.
Apparently, he didn't like the deal I had struck with the owners of the other boat because I got quite a bit of money knocked off and scuppered the deal. Nice bloke.
I wish I could contact the owner of the other boat and tell him what his broker was doing to him.
