All avon seariders, as far as I know, have got automatically filling hulls. This is to give the boat a better sitting position in the water, and for more stability. There are two small holes in the bow, and a large hole in the transom to empty out at speed. This is all very good until we are looking for fast acceleration (e.g. when we are waterskiing and wakeboarding).
Has any body found a way of blocking up the three holes this that is cheap and reasonably easy to change, even if it has to be taken out of the water on the trailer to do so?

If it don't get you ostracised, pop onto ribnet. Some ribber has restored a crappy old avon and there is a close up pic of the blanking system. Gallery forum. Thread, My Boat.

I did this with mine when I was coaching on lakes sometimes - I had two bungs which fitted the front holes and I made a blank which fitted the transom hole. It was ok but eventually I settled for different prop sizes. the smaller one getting me up on the plane sooner but with a lower top speed and then a larger one for sea use where I needed a faster top speed as I needed to cover greater distances.
This was a 4m searider incidentally with a 30hp outboard.

Is that so? Are you married? I have two lovely daughters - their father has spent their dowry though, is that ok?

Bu**er me. This may be my type of forum. I come on, offering a bit of well meant advice and before I get my slippers on, I'm being offered women. Anyway, not too keen on that "M" word, speshully without a dowry.

What model Searider?

I used to have a 4m with a 50hp and would agree that blanking off the ballast chamber makes a big difference to the accelleration, especially with four people on board. Avon do a removeable stainless steel plug that fits in the transom hole. (About £50 - £70 I believe?). The two vents can be blanked off with rubber bungs or silicone sealant. The Avon plug did leak a bit - ie the boat needs to come out of the water each day or so to be drained. My plug was quite old and might have benefited from a new seal - so might not be typical.
The better solution I found was to have a fine pitch propeller if you were skiing or had lots of people on board.

Now have a 5.4m searider with a 90hp. No need to blank off the ballast chamber - it goes like a scalded cat even with the ballast chamber full and a big pitch propeller.

I hope this helps.

Slippers? Nah gel, yer showing yer age. Forget nike trainers, slippers are the new "in" footwear for 'ansome men about town. Anyway, I said I'm not into that "M" word. I prefer to have a jolly with the girls mother. They're usually cheaper and a lot more fun.
