Black or white

The top of my instrument panel by the windscreen is white at the moment but I find that the sun glares off this onto the windscreen so I thought about painting it matt black to stop this. However, I then wondered wether, in hot weather it would get to hot.
Has anyone painted the top bit black and had problems or does it work OK?
