Bison Electric Outboards

Pretty limited. Those motors are designed for lake fishing in the US, where they are called trolling motors. They are used to hold fishing boats in position. So have very limited power and range. They have been on the market for over 25 years but have made no impression on the market for powering yacht tenders. The only electric power that works, and then in a fairly limited way is the Torqeedo which is designed to replace small outboards, but it is 4 times the price of the toys you are looking at.

Not cheap but excellent outboards. Integral battery and the unit splits into three parts for ease of storage and assembly on the tender. Far greater range than you would expect and they can be trickle charged directly from the ship's 12V supply without the need for an inverter. I bought a spare battery but have yet to need it !

We've been using the 32 ft lb version for two years - works well in calm seas and winds up to about 10 knots but after that its running out of steam. We plan to get the 65 ft lb version this winter and try that - we recharge off solar, its light, silent and maintenance free so if the beefier one will cope with a little more wind and sea than the 32lb we have now we'll be very happy. We have a 4hp Johnson two stroke too, only used it 4 times in 2 years when the wind was too strong - its smelly, noisy and needs long walks to find petrol some places so it will be up for sale if the 65lb electric version does the job

I,v on of thier units, notcby anymeans the biggest. Bought from a Scotish trader on Ebay atleast 6 years ago. Still going strong. Contrary to oppinion it brought my self and son safely back ashore when we couldnt make headway against wind and current in Skerries bay one realy dodgy day. Went in and out to my deep water mooring, probably 1/4 mile, on the supplied 25ah battery. Chinese made but what isn,t these days.
