Anyone heard of these. Look like a whopping great Delta. I've got one as a backup which I've just spotted the name on when cleaning out the lazarette!

Perhaps more pf a Fortress, Jimi ?

I have one. It's aluminimium , beautiful workmanship. The chap from whom I bought it is a top end engineer with specialist welding portfolio.

Home Page (birchleyuk.co.uk)

I get the feeling that if I chuck it overbooard, it will stay stuck in the seabed till I want to leave, and even then I may have to ask it nicely.

With an A5 piece of paper for scale

You're right. Aha, I see what you mean about it being a Delta type. Apologies

I wonder if he just likes making differentanchors from the quality engineering point of view ?

I bought the Fortress type one from him about 8 years ago, the other came with the boat so suspect it’s at least 25 years old. It’s pretty damn heavy! The pointy bit is solid mrtal

Jimi,

If the aluminium anchor that looks like an overweight Fortress is as good as a Fortress you may find after a bit of a blow the anchor is difficult to retrieve. You will not want to lose the anchor - might I recommend you find a shackle that will allow the bow to fit to the shank, rather than the clevis pin. as the clevis pin may fail (and you lose the anchor). Its a cheap fix. But if it is a cheap shackle it may fail unexpectedly (cannot tell from the image if its cheap) all shackle makers warn UTS will be 50% when side loaded (and if its stainless it will yield easily - and you will need to cut it off).

Your anchor has been copied, Manson make one in a tasteful electric blue shade (blue anodising?), called a Racer though I'm not sure it comes in sizes as big as yours.

The 'pointy' bit on most such anchors, Kobra, Delta, Excel, Spade are also solid metal. The Excel is built with a pocket into which steel is cast, Spade also has a pocket (into which lead is cast), Kobra is a cast lump onto which the 'heel' wings are welded (not sure about Delta - but the toe is certainly solid steel). Rocna is different - its 'just' a big chunk of steel plate (nothing wrong with a big chunk of steel plate, when used correctly).

its called ballast :)

See post #2, para 4. Jimi knows about anchors. It must be a Scottish sailor thing.

This is far too complicated for me.

I don't see any paragraphs, just simple one line statements

Perhaps you can be less obtuse and explain for simpletons like what your point might be - Maybe you are referring back to something under your previous persona.

Jings your arse must be michty tough if yer conseedering wiping it wae a Knox!

You need to be tough to cope with some of the less than subtle barbs here :)

Proving the point Rocna for One suffered a period of multiple barbs and appear to have come out of it, almost, smelling of roses. If only members here knew of the identities of some of the protagonists. :)

It's the Delta-type in Jimi's photo in post #3 which is the Birchley, not the Fortress-type which is actually a Fortress. :)

I'm not aware that Fortress make a welded version.

But in any event if you use the Birchley link, given above, you will find that the aluminium anchor is - in fact, a Birchley. He made both the Fortress clone (with short stock) and also the Delta clone.

It seems that you too are a simpleton and like me found Sarabande's post obtuse - nice to have company. I'm sure someone will clarify.

I think S was saying that he thought the same as you in that the 'fortress' type would stick like the proverbial to a blanket and that Jimi was right in his first comment that the 'delta' type was a birchley and that the OP was about that type and not as mistaken by S about a 'fortress' type . don't think any of it had any barbs in or on it! Incidently has S had a previous persona? which? But there again being a simpleton too it could all be tosh!

I think you need to ask S. It is very unethical to divulge a previous persona. Sadly I am sometimes sorely tempted - but you would not notice the subtle and repetitive barbs and he knows I am ethical and would not challenge forum rules.
