SWMBO wants to get me a burfday prezzie and asked what I would like (apart from the obvious) and I would like some binos to replace the mouldy ole pair that came with the boat , what would people choose ? Keeping price under £100 ......

I'd choose a monocular instead. The number of times you have to put down something in order to use binos is amazing. And you get a lot better optics for the same money.

Bought Helios Oceanmaster 7 x 50s last year with compass and rangefinder, £90 from Red Box in Tunbridge Wells. Seem v good, but didn't get much chance to really try them due to cr*p weather restricting yottin' activities.

As an experiement, I bought some with 'longer view' than recommended for boat use but, as they were Canon Image Stabilizing ones, I thought they might work.
They are remarkably good at giving a very steady image when rolling around out at sea and checking bouys, ships, entrances etc.
They don't eat batteries as you only use the IS function when you press the button on the top.
Glad I spent the money on them now (and they were not that expensive as I got them secondhand).
