Binoculars Image stabilising

Hi

I want to buy some of the above to use on safari and of course on a boat. I have bought some in the past though about 3 years ago and am wondering if there have been any advances I should take advantage of? So need to be goodish and not too heavyish.

Any ideas please?

I have the Canon IS 12x36 and they are excellent.....

You bought me the Canon IS 10x30 and I use them all the time on the boat. We love 'em and they are easily the most useful non drinkable boat present I have ever received, thank you! They were the ones praised in the thread linked to above. They are very lightweight and portable. You can get massively expensive ones that work on a different stabilising principle from the Canons, and some folks say they're better, but they are heavier and what you might gain in optical perfection is lost in terms of weight and massive price. So I reckon the Canons are the best you can get for sensible/ordinary use/sensible £££

I can't remember whether you tried them this summer on the Corsica run? They were generally out and about on the flybridge dashboard

For sure, once you have used stabilised binoculars you well never want to use non stabilised ones ever again

I bought a pair based on Henry's & JMF's recommendation and they are very good

+1 for the Cannon - SWMBO bought me a pair.. they're so good I hardly ever get the use as she uses them on her bird watching trips

Another vote for the Canon 10x30 IS. Excellent kit, but make sure you have spare batteries available. When the batteries first started to run out of juice I thought a fault had developed.

We also have the 8x25 IS. They are surprisingly good on board and very handy when walking ashore.
