My binocular leather case strap has just broken -the binoculars are fairly ancient dating I suspect from WW2 however family inheritance, but where might I buy a new strap ? Are there leather strap makers out there apart from the Reapair Shop I am at a loss where to go.

My first stop would be to go and see your local Timpsons. My experience with them has always been much better than I expected and I really like the ethics/attitude of the business.

If that doesn’t help or you don’t share my belief in them - a local saddlery (horse riding/equine supplier) may be able to help. Failing that have a look for a local “repair cafe” or “maker group” and I’ll bet someone can make a new strap for buttons.

Will certainly try Timpson’s -the website for barefootleather doesn’t work for me sadly . I will also be asking or should I say asking another to ask on the local Ashtead mums net type sight which often elicits a variety of responses (I sometimes think some might even be lurking on this forum🤣)m

Invent a sob story about the case belonging to your late uncle who escaped from a POW camp with them and they’ll mend it in The Repair Shop.

The repair shop story had crossed my mind -my late uncle did belong to the little ships club and I did think he might have been involved in some fashion in Dunkirk given his marine interests but he returned -he spent his working career surveying big ships for insurance purposes I do know

I must be psychic, or psychotic perhaps.

Thanks for advices. I have been in contact with a chap in Paignton who seems able to supply a new strap for the case from 1944

Local pet shop. Dog leads are a good source of material in various widths.
