Bilge keels for distance yachts

Except that he only discusses fin keels. Rather like quoting Webby in a discussion about burning peat for domestic heating.

Very shoal-draft boats may require fatter keels or fins in order to get the ballast as low as possible for stability

At least with twin keels you can have the fuel pontoon in St PP to yourself on a Sunday morning followed by a browse around the chandlers. No need to rush no one else with a fin can get near the fuel pontoons.

As far as I'm concerned, my twin keels and less draft allow me to visit places that would be a lot of hassle or no go areas with a long keel.
As for protecting the rudder (Seajet) that's what my skeg does.

Absolutely, in the past two weeks we have been to Wareham, then inside the pool at Hurst Castle and Friday morning when a large yacht ran aground blocking the exit to Bembridge we slipped past on the wrong side of the green can explaining we had 1.1m under the hull which would give him a idea which side the channel lay. Ashlett and Wootton Creeks beckon.

Didn't a forumite take a Centaur to the Azores and back a couple of years ago.

The Contessa 32 hull looks to me like a fat woman sitting on a bus seat. The Nicholson 32, on the other hand ... drool.

You guys have so many nice yachts over there. Like many sailors, I've had a number of boats around the edges, but I've sailed English boats for most of my sailing life. I have Favona and a Westerly Pageant. One to work on and one to sail. Thanks for the info on the Holman. I'll have to look those up.
