BIG plastic spacer, where do i get one from

Hi,

like some of the other posts I would have thought that a suitable piece of round section plastic bar would be quite expensive and you may have to order a minimun length, also it might have to be cut by machine to make a decent job of it. If you want to go down this route you may be able to get it from Farnell (catalogue). However, if none of the other suggestions grab you how about casting it from acrylic? It should not be difficult to either make or find a suitable mould and you should be able to get the materials from a good model shop or hobby centre. I wouldn't have thought it was worth worrying about the brittleness or otherwise of the material in this sort of thickness.

I am assuming that it is just for a plinth to lift the toilet in which case timber glassed over would be suitable and likely to pose fewer problems than plastic which suffer creep, etc. After all in many situations the toilet will sit on a glassed ply base forming part of the compartment floor anyway.

Glass cloth probably need not be used but is an easier way to build up resin thickness than applying coats of resin to get sufficient build thickness to ensure long term water resistance. If there is no reason to be able to remove the spacer in the future I would just glass it in with the existing floor.

Many marine toilets come in low or high heights, depending on the size of the plinth. Suggest you see if you can order a taller plinth as a spare part.
