Beta 20 fuel filter

Early Beta engines have the fuel filter at the back of the engine behind the pump. They a PIA to change as they are difficult to grip, you end up spilling diesel everywhere and then have trouble tightening the new one. Beta make a conversion kit to bring the filter to the front top left and it is well worth the money and an easy fit. Best of luck - before fitting the conversion I regularly had to ease mine out by chiselling the filter rim with a screwdriver!!!!

I have the same arrangement as you, and I spoke to Beta at the boat show about this; they don't do the kit any more, but will make one up for you. Contact them with your engine details - the numbers on the sticker - and they'll make sure you get the right bits.

My Beta filters are tucked round the side with space but hard to get good purchase on. I use one of these to start them moving. A lot neater than chisels or screwdrivers.View attachment 201900
Yeah - tried that but the boat is long keel and the engine is neatly tucked in, almost touching the hull so I couldn’t get my hand around it, only fingers and no room even for a chain wrench. It needed moving

Get the Beta kit and move the filter to where it's easy to reach.

Imagine fuel contamination, and having to change it while at sea!!

Been there, done that.

I DO NOT WHAT TO REPEAT THE EXPERIENCE!!!

Please come back and tell us how easy (or otherwise) it is to fit with the engine slotted into the boat. It's bad enough changing the filter, I don't think I want to be doing anything fiddley down there.

I fitted on about 10 years ago and it was very easy to fit and an absolute dream to maintain compared to the original arrangement

When I changed my filter from the engine I added a second so I have a course filter and a fine filter, also added a vacuum gauge so only need to change when they need changing. A bit of a job but well worth it. Good luck with it

I also changed to the two micron filter.

Good luck with it.

I managed to fit the adaptor this weekend, ran out of time to fit the pipes and bleed the line, so next week for that. Nice and easy so far

So a frustrating day this was. I tried to remove the existing fuel lines and run new ones to the adaptor a installed last week but I could not budge then.
Can anyone explain how to undo the clips shown in the photos please.
