I know this is not the most exciting way to spend a saturday but can anybody recommend which vacuum cleaner to buy for our boat? 1 that will also inflate tender.

personaly I use a karcher wet vac, although the previous rowenta one worked well except the onoff switch was easilly wetted when disconnectig the vac hose

Somewhat puzzled that you need a wet/dry vac on the boat? presumably you have shore power so why are you blowing up the dingy?
If you mean a little 12v job, ARGOS etc sell ones that do a fair job at vacuming (nothing like a proper cleaner though) and they certainly blow the dingy up 90% in no time ... you just finish off with the pump. They are NOT wet-and-dry though.

Never though of using the vac to inflate the tender, exellent idea but wher do you get a sutable adaptor for the hose from?

WE brought a Argos wet and dry type last year £23.99. During our building work it sucked up everything, dust , bricks chippings , plaster offcuts.
It really was good.

Our Wet/Dry vac is one of the most useful tools on the boat - and we have got a whole forecabin devoted to tools as we live onboard.
The best thing about ours is that it BLOWS as well as sucks so you don't contaminate the machine and pipes. With it we have blown out blocked and dirty diesel lines, engine water cooling systems and calorifiers, filters etc.etc.. Its also used to keep the bilges perfectly dry as they are so deep we can't reach the bottom, and it cleans out shower sumps and freezers and.......
Our first one was a VAX from B&Q - which died after two years from so much use. They don't make them any more but Ryobi do exactly the same model - but thankfully not in orange. Small and light and only 750 watts so it runs off the inverter.

Absolutely agree, essential when laying up in an enclosed engine room on a steel boat!!!

Texaco garages were giving away 12v Wet n Dry with a large pack of Deisel engine oil last month! I meant to get one for lay-up/sweep-up,pump-up, pump-out - but forgot. Thinx -I wonder if they still have them?
