We have one of these:
http://www.solarpanelpvt.com/100w-semi-flexible-monocrystalline-solar-panel.html
to fit onto our new bimini.
We're quite lucky there's a really nice panel of bimini the solar panel sits on perfectly. The only thing we need now is to attach the solar panel to the bimini so it won't blow away in the wind. However, the attachment needs to be temporary so we can remove the panel prior to rolling away the bimini.
The fitting method also needs to be reasonably tidy so it's not an eyesore if we don't have the solar panel mounted.

Thoughts?

Hi

We found that velcro was not secure in a blow. I stitched a small patch of matching canvas top and inside with a small stainless "D" ring at each corner, nylon cord then fixes the solar panel securely to outside. Maybe not so neat as velcro but safe.

Good luck

Having been testing the solar panel on the bimini by, well, having it sat there, we're pretty happy this should be fine. The panel isn't massively heavy and the weight distribution between two of the bimini supports seems to be good. So we now want to secure it like in the picture above, which looks the neatest and safest. It should also help distribute the weight of the panel and provide some rigidity to the bimini, as opposed to anchoring at the four corners alone.

So, could anyone recommend someone to carry out this work? I've emailed C&J Marine who made our bimini, but as usual their communication isn't the speediest and they haven't got back to me. I'll give them a bell later on to hurry them along. But in case they can't/don't want to do the work or can't do it in our time frame (2 weeks), can anyone recommend another person/company in or around the Hamble area?

Ta.

I've heard of peeps making pockets from window PVC material atop their biminis, and slipping in the panels.Opinion was that charging still occurred.Unable to check if this is the case presently.OP's may have the answer?
I lash my flexible panels down with cords on top of the bimini, but they become unruly in 30kts wind and have to be laid on deck instead.

we just fitted our solbian ones last week.

both were ordered with zips. These were then sewn onto the bimini by our local sailmaker.

once zipped on, there are velcro flaps to add additional anchorage as well as covering the zips from the elements.

Very pleased with them both. They were knocking out 9 amps at 3pm at the end of March.
