best used 30 foot river cruiser

i had a 27ft shetland and it was a great boat had everything i needed on the river and was very spacious for a 27ft boat

fantastic on fuel diesel heating etc etc it was a fair bit more than your 30k budget but it was a 2008 boat so an older boat same model would possibly be within your range

Hi and welcome.
A list of things you do not want.
A.Any flashy speedboat thingy built out of eggshells with more decals than a XR3i and with a tent on the top.
B.NO PETROL ENGINES.NO NOT EVER !!!!!!!!!!!
C.Avoid like the plague .....unless you are really skint or desperate anything with ......................OUTDRIVES.
So basically its a nice Broom/Seamaster/Princess 30DS or similar on shafts .
Oooo and......
Z. As a cash buyer at the moment you are the master of the boat universe, nothing but nothing is selling and even worse for sellers its winter and the marina bills will be arriving around Xmas.

IMHO if you have £30K to spend you should be looking at stuff around £45-50K,ignore all the broker advice about weedy 5% and 10 % offers.
Make your insulting offer and walk away plenty more unused and unloved boats in the marina next door.
Ps.Have you bothered to find out how much your pride and joy will cost to moor. ?

Z. ,nothing but nothing is selling

PMSL!
Where on earth do people get this idea from?

Almost any proactive boat broker will agree that, whilst some of the rules have changed, it is the busiest this industry has been on good used boats that most of us can remember.

The recession has hit new boat sales pretty hard, nobody is denying that, but this hasn't meant people don't want to go boating, many just want to be more frugal about it and a good used boat ticks the boxes for many.

Boat sales have never been busier and the hardest part is getting the listings as we keep runinng out.
There is a slight, natural slowing down between now and mid January, but boats remain for sale and buyers are still out there.

Just to add to the list of possibles:
Storebro Adriatic

30' of twin diesel shaft drive cruiser that will do very well on the river, but be extremely happy cruising coastal waters too.
Superb Scandinavian build, lots of solid chunky wood inside and attractive lines outside.

I put a Quicksilver 640 on Ebay at half ten last night, had a text within 10 minutes and a phone call first thing this morning. 9 watchers so far.

I wish people wouldn't advise others to make half price offers. Whilst i'd like to sell mine, i'd rather keep it than give it away.

Well in the case of making low offers on 40-50k boats, check out a Broom 35 European or maybe even a Broom Ocean 37.

Me :)

Know people trying to sell everything from a Phantom 48 @ £375 K to 25ft Beneteau peche
@ sub £50K and a whole pile of Turbo 36 and early Princess P33 and P37 which simply are not attracting any interest what so ever.
Trawling the brokers listings indicate the sheer number of boats sitting like rocks immovable for ages on the the websites.
There are buyers around, one of my chums is patiently looking to buy a P46 or a P42 either here or in the Med but the price will have to be very keen indeed to get him to cough up.

+ 1

i have now bought a boat about 3 months ago but i still look on the net to see whats about and a lot of the boats i was looking at 6-9 months ago and more are still for sale even when reduced dramatically

i hate to think if i needed to sell my new to me boat as i dont think much is moving at all i think the only way i would sell is if i part ex to go bigger

great for buyers sh*t for sellers i'm affraid

no one seems to have any money i own my own business and most pay via credit card for any bills bigger than £50 some 40 year old couples have had to stand in my reception on their phones to ask parents to lend them money to pay a £300 car repair bill its f**kin crazy really

hi all,
would welcome your views on buying a used 30ft
about £30000

I ain't spending much time on this one - how many crew are going to sleep overnight?

How about an outboard engined river boat? Cheap to run and maintain ;)

Plenty of good used Viking 26's around and within budget. Take your choice - old Seamaster or Broom 30 (late 70's, early 80's) or a mid to late 90's Viking 26.

Oldgit - why wouldn't you want a petrol outboard on the Thames?.

No problem with outboards at all on small lightweight cruisers, perfect for the job especially a nice Honda 4 stroke of some sort..
Was thinking more of a heavy and therefore bit more stable older river cruiser type of thing.
There are still a few boats lurking out there with Volvo petrols on O/Ds,one of which on the Thames was sporting a divine pair of Volvo V6s if memory serves me right.
Well done the broker who sold that to its owners.:)
