Best time of year to sell?

There is no "best" time. Boats sell all year round. It is more likely to sell if you put it on the market when it suits you rather than when you think buyers are hot, but recognise that the average selling time is measured in months rather than weeks.

Thanks everyone, I was interested if there was a perceived best time to sell but appreciate there are lots of different factors but probably best when its sunny and people think of being on the water, rather than December.

Cheers

I find there are loads more boats available for sale in the spring summer than in the autumn winter. I know in the motorcycle market everyone used to say buy in winter as prices are lower, but that is bull. In winter there was less choice, which served to actually increase prices.

Given the time it might take any sale period might span a variety of different conditions for viewing depending on location. I would say the best time to sell is dependent on condition of vessel and how it would photograph now or if some from of makeover might assist. Numerous boats picks on sale sites seemed designed to put buyers off so a degree of preparation and time required might influence your thinking?

Not necessarily. People have different motivations for buying, and selling, so while things go dead a couple of weeks either side of Xmas, many people are looking for boats in the winter in readiness for next season. Equally, when the weather is good (like now) there is a temptation to do things rather than looking at buying boats!

People love spending money after Christmas on all soughts of things. After 2 years I took my last boat to exactly the right place to sell, where the buyers were. sold it in early February. If its the right product in the right place, you stand a better chance on achieving a better price.

The best times have in our experience ( https://www.yachtsnet.co.uk/ ) always used to be early spring or mid to late autumn - a ready-to-go boat in spring or one needing a bit of work in autumn. However it seems now to be more spread out - apart from mid-December to mid-January seem to occur all year round. There is though still an upturn as the weather gets warmer in spring - rather later this year than usual.
