My wife is going to clean & polish all the stainless steel fittings on the exterior of our boat. Any recommendations as to what cleaner to use for a bright finish please?

Used Brasso (liquid) after removing an outboard bracket, it cleaned it up very nicely including rust stains but didn't leave a particularly bright finish, just what I had to hand...

You'll be in the dog house then if you splash any of that nasty sea water on it.

Most metal polishes will work, so it's just a matter of convenience. Some time ago I acquired a tube of 3Ms metal polish which is handy but I don't suppose it is any better than others mentioned.

Q-Rail. I was given some by a metal fabricator and it is excellent. Paint/sponge it on, wait 15 mins and wash it off. Probably quite caustic so gloves and goggles essential.

I found out when using 3M cleaner and restorer (an abrasive cleaner and polish in one, much like solvol autosol) that it cleans and polishes SS beautifully.
