Hi guys,

I need to strip and prep the iron/lead keel before epoxying the whole hull in a month or two with Jotun. Does anyone have any ideas of the best anti-rust product to use immediately after stripping the rust off of the keel to avoid any adherance issues with the jotun epoxy later on?

I'd rather epoxy the whole lot in one go than do one patch on the keel first, so a rust converter/primer type thing would be ideal, but Im not sure which ones might interfere with the bond between the keel and the epoxy. Does anyone have any experience doing this that can suggest any good products and techniques?

Thanks!

Try Aquasteel , used it on stub keel and it works well.

I used Fertan on mine after needlegunning and wire brushing back to bright metal, followed by several coats of VCTar. It has gone on OK, but the boat isnt back in the water yet so i dont know how effective it has been.

I DO hope I dont have to do it again - ever!

I use Rustbuster FE123 converter. Its like a thicker version of the Hammerite version and I use it on my steel ketch under Rustbusters Expoxy mastic coating.
