He is a cheapskate ? , think I will visit midweek.

BTW it looks from the plan of the pontoons that there is now a second row, the inner not connected to the shore is this correct?

I'm pretty sure that's the far end of the pontoon - it's quite long!

The area north of the pontoon dries out to leave a fairly narrow channel. I'm not sure my Snapdragon that drew change from a metre would have got out from the inside corner at low springs.

My believe is even after the storms earlier this year all remain connected to the shore. It is as said a a walk from the outer end but the further along you are the less disturbance from passing traffic both on pontoon and by boats at handover space. There’s plenty of space on hammerhead (a new rustler 57 ish was moored there on its way to east anglia) but on outside the fingers are fine even if you draw 2m . If you have time there is a small gallery in the shed on the shore with pictures etc for sale. It shares space with a rental office for vw combi. You can get limited supplies at marina office but really a good idea to stock up in advance. If you have any worries at Bembridge I’m sure Gordon will advise if you call the office in advance etc.they also have Facebook with pictures etc.

Tidal stream runs perpendicular to the finger berths which some get caught out by, last time I was there I came away with a load of black marks and some scratches on the quarter, although cant prove probably a present from the inadequately fendered neighbouring boat as it departed.

Yes having started sailing as a cadet at BHYC and known the harbour since the days of Major Selwyn I agree some seem to be surprised at the tidal stream when departing the berth perhaps also worried at perceived proximity of brown mud. At least the boats should be better fendered than found in some small French marina but I guess it’s just a risk to be aware of and invest in a couple of ball fenders to protect the stern. I think the last time in a marina we were hit was by a blue hulled and blue flagged oyster which thought it could do a u turn in the berth fairway at Haslar and rolled our stern fender along the stern . Something to be said for not being the longest boat on the pontoon .?
