best place for second hand sails?

If I decide to replace the sails on my bradwell 18, there are several tears on the genoa (from uv damage I think, and the mainsail is like an old carrier bag.

Look down in the 'for sale' section. I have just bought one there and I think he still has a jib that might fit you.
Edit: Just checked and it is a storm jib, so perhaps not.

Grit your teeth, join Facebook and then a group called 'Yachts and Yachty Bits for Sale'. There may also be other groups such as 'dayboats' or 'Keelboats' that could yield results. Ebay of course. And always worth just calling local sailmakers and asking what they have tucked away. Think laterally. Get some dimensions from other boats and see what might fit. You might end up with something fabulous from a Dragon or something. Race boats often get new sails frequently and you could get a tasty laminated sail for not much money. And while talking to the local sailmaker ask her about prices for alterations. If you can get a crispy newish sail for say 100 quid, and spend another 100 on getting it adjusted, you will have a result and a good sail

I bought a really nice S/H cruising headsail for my boat from Jeckells early this year, dealt with a very honest guy called Mark Woodford

Hi Steve,
My sails were pretty finished on Helix. I bought a second hand main and when I tried to get it adjusted the cost far outweighed any savings. I managed to get a very good deal on a new main and genoa from an east Coast sailmaker. nearly 40% less than south coast sailmakers. They are being Tailor made in house. Might be worth considering. Ill PM you their contact details if your interested.

I posted a 'wanted' on FB 'Yachts and Yachty Bits for Sale' and got three offers, selected one and paid less than the postage to get it here. I was surprised that it worked but very happy with the result. (must change the sail number sometime!)

I didn't quote measurements, just be specific about the boat.

or you could ask around other Bradwel 18 owners. Of course most of them want to hold on to their sails, but if there were one who had, for example, just converted to junk rig, then s/he would be left with an old mainsail. Of course it might not be in much better condition than yours, and it may take a while to dig out...

Is a bradwell 18 a ything like a squib for size. If so a query at burnham on crouch to the squibbies there would almost certainly raise something. Try andy at Yachting solutions for suggestions. He is a sqib sailor and well known
