What is the best knot to attach a 5'0" line permanently to a fender?

Anchor bend?

Fisherman's bend?

Round turn and two half hitches

Or a standard bowline or do you have another suggestion?

Actually, I think the best is an eye splice. Two reasons - it's easy and permanent in three strand line and the clove hitch on the rail is easier to undo in three strand.

Rob.

If permanent then an eyesplice ,quick and neat; securing to hand rail or lifelines, use a quick release clove hitch,i.e. the last tuck of the hitch is a loop without the tail entering the tuck. To release just pull the tail and collapse the knot.Surprising question?

I eyespliced ropes to a few fenders and then realised I could not take the ropes off to wash.... (and the fenders I didn't think would go too well in the washing machine if still attached).

So the rest I did by putting an eyesplice in the end of the rope.. and then tucking the loose end through the fender eye and back through the loop and pulling tight (a bit like putting on a luggage label).

Personally I think it looks good - and they're removable for washing...

Round turn and two half hitches works for me on a permanent basis.
'Permanent' can be a bit 'loose' ref weather etc on my berth
So that's why I don't use a bowline
Clove hitch with a bight in the tail pushed through for ease of release if needed.
Clove hitch whilst coming alongside another vessel or wall/ pier etc if not knowing what to expect ref height etc.

Eye splice in threee strand, which is then cow hiched to the fender. The other end of the fender whip is tied to the guardwires with a rolling hitch.

Never lost one yet, unlike the two orphan fenders I picked up last year.

whipping

If you whip the end of the fisherman's bend onto the standing part it won't come apart until you want it to. Then you can just take the whipping off and do another.
