Any thoughts on best new 6hp outboard - 27kg size - smoothest running, quietest, reliable, starts easily when warm, not prone to clogging, easy to access carburettor? - or are they very similar.

Find a fisherman , get him to buy you a new one , you get the engine he gets the vat back
Why not tell the fisherman that since doesn’t actually possess the engine that he dropped it overboard and claim on his insurance….

So if I was to get an electric outboard, would it be practical to charge it on solar as no electricity where I am - need about an hour running for each day sail.

You could take the battery home and charge it

Batteries for a Navy 3.0 or 6.0 outboard are listed as 76kg weight so far too heavy to carry home every time and pull up the ramp in the dinghy or lift up onto the quay - so back to sculling oar or sailing on and off the mooring when the harbour team aren't looking.

6HP petrol outboard is about 26kg so similar to the Navy electric without the 76kg battery so on reflection an electric Navy engine might work in a marina with mains electricity but is not really viable for me on a swinging mooring in the way that the brilliant little E-lite is for the dinghy.

The Torqueedo XP 5hp equivalent 12.6kg plus 9.6kg integral detachable battery is probably the one I would like to try if I had the opportunity.

The navy 3 will run for 1hr at full chat , you would need it on charge all day so can’t use ,or have 2 batteries .

The navy is 24kg plus’s battery plus control I think.

Purchased a new 6hp Honda 18 months ago, only used on a tender, but it’s been fine, starts well and proved to be reliable.

Agreed. I have experienced both Yamaha and Honda 6hp’s on tenders. The Yamaha was a bitch to start, and quite unrefined when running. My current Honda starts second pull, and is much more refined.

Ref #18 - Only 6HP - for weight reduction as I can't lift the Suzi 9.9 4 stroke -
