We have a Westerly 33 and declared the correct length (10.1 metres) when we took up our marina berth some three years ago. Have now received a letter stating that they have measured all the boats and that our is longer than stated.

They have included the anchor (in bow roller) and recently fitted davits. While I'm not over the moon about this, I can see from the berthing agreement that this is part of it. What I'm not so convinced about is that they seem to have included the tender as it sits in the davits. Given that it's moveable and not always there (eg during winter months and sometimes not in the summer) I'm a going to argue this point. I'm definitely going to argue their proposal to backdate the increase to the beginning of the year!

Any thoughts/experiences on this before I begin this particular battle?

I think this will simply come down to a question of how much they want your business, but sounds typical for the UK (the S.Coast at least). It always annoys me that because my boat has SADLER 29 emblaisoned on it that's what |I invariably get charged even though its only 28'5" by the makers own admission.
(you try arguing that one on a one night stay!). If they work in metric, the conversion will only ever work in their favour!

On the other hand I have accurately measured the boat to the SSR instructions so it appears (correctly) as 8.22m rather than the makers 8.67m. This is convenient in France where the price band often changes at 8.5m, and helps with the 'area' measurement for the canals.

I read something similar on the Motor Boat Forum that was causing some constentation. See a post by "hlb" last updated on 27 Nov: "Emergency meeting of the kangaroo court". If you use the search function and search on "tape measure" you'll find it quite quickly.

Possibly from the same marina.

Good luck.

On the Contrary - Bowsprits very much In Fashion

Just look at all the ULWD cruisers and racers which have an asymmetric on a RETRACTABLE bowsprit.

Technology goes round in circles - there are quite a few racing lads who have been horrified to be overtaken by a gaffer when going flat out, off the wind.
