Beneteau First 26 - Dries out?

The Beneteau First 21.7 and older 24 have lifting keels that can support the weight of the boat.

The 26 (circa 86-89) also have lifting keels. Does anyone know if these models, not being a trailer sailor, can dry out on their keel and take the weight of the boat assuming it was propped up with legs?

It's doing that with legs. It would be far from flat if it dried without that sort of support.

Yeah i agree my original question was with the use of legs. I certainly wouldn't want to let it dry out without them haha. Would be just a little tricky cooking up a meal at that angle

Mine First Spirit260 is taken out of the water every winter. It rests on its keel with props either side to prevent it toppling over. I certainly wouldn't care just to rely on the twin rudders for stabiliy.

But legs, apart from shallower draft, makes it no different to any other finkeeler. And others will tell you that legs aren't a great answer to a permanent mooring.

It's not a permanent mooring, it is just an answer to being able to dry out on certain harbours in North Devon and similar estuaries once in a while. I intend to keep the boat in a Marina.

I would agree a bilge keeler would be the only way if I intended to put her on a drying mooring.

My dad owned a first 24 for 10 years which dried out into 8" of soft mud each tide of his ownership with no bother at all.

Hard pack or sand I would be less keen on, but mud is pretty soft and forgiving.
