Hello, im new to the forum
Been to look at a 2007 beneteau antares 760 today fitted with the nanni 4390tdi? 200hp. I get mixed opinions, some people say stay away and stick with the volvos that come in the older models ,then other people swear by nannis.
Oil pressure was between 45psi-55psi, temperate was good.
Took the oil cap off when running just to see how much crank pressure it had and it seemed alot compared to engines im used to, like cummins/cats and perkins which run with hardly any. Is this normal for nannis to run like this and breath this much, as there an unknown engine to me. Engine has around 700 hours on it. Any information would be grateful as ive got to let the guy know tomorrow if I want it, also are there any other common issue to look out for?

Thanks

Can't help with the Nanni engine, my 760 has the VP. I've had mine for 5 years now and have not discovered anything about the 760 that you should be aware of. When I purchased I made an offer subject to an engine/drive/seatrial survey. Found a recommended mechanic with experience of the specific engine who did, amongst other things, a compression test, and on the sea trial checked the revs and speed (I get 22knots with a perfectly clean bottom and prop but mostly 20)

I have a 2005 with nannni . I choose this engine rather than the Volvo as it is simpler The Nanni is 4 cylinder and very economical, but I believe the volvo is 6 cylinder and gives faster performance. The boat was in such good condition and only just over 500 hours that I decided to take a chance and forgo a survey since the boat was already over my budget. My mistake ,although the hull was perfect , the anode protection system had failed and the prop was zincked.. New prop needed and not easily replaced because of the skeg, Altho the prop looked in good nick, one tap of a hammer would have sufficed to tell it was useless. Also make sure the boat has had and recorded a 500 mile service.as It is expensive .That apart I think this boat is excellent value ., The bow thruster works brilliantly . Due family problems I have not used the boat since July last year. Went to the marina last week and she started on the button,,, yes one turn of the key was enought, cant ask better than that.!Good luck with your choice.

The Nanni 4.390tdi seem to fail on the 4th cylinder on the head between the exhaust and intake valve at about 500hrs if they are going to fail. I post several years ago about mine.

thanks for your reply, what sort of top speed do you get at what rpm?

Is this a common problem or just a unlucky handful? How did you go about this problem?
I have heard of several over the years but it is well documented that there was a poor metal quality of the alloy head casting that was causing the failing. I am sure there will be hundreds of them out there that are fine. If you can get hold of one AMC do the better quallity head.

The base engine is a toyota 1kz which was in the pardo and land cruiser of which you will find cheap parts for the nanni .

i found this of which posted back in 2014.
I have a nanni 4.390tdi (200hp) and this what i can tell you about them . They are Toyota base engine from the land cruiser range and yes they did have problems with cracked heads on the forth cylinder if you look on the Australian 4x4 forums but mainly due to towing heavy loads. The reason they were cracking was due to the thermostat not opening until 80 deg and it was solved by a lower rating thermostat and also there was some concern over the quality of the metal used in the casting process of the heads so the 4x4 guys used AMC made heads which seemed to be a better quality heads. The nanni has 71deg thermostat opening and not the 80deg like the 4X4 have. The parts for servicing are about half the price from a uk 4x4 supplier and there are few that supply the Toyota land cruiser engine. The classic tell tell sign if the head is gone is that it will pressurize the header tank and dump the water out but this happens only when you are at about 2000rpm and above.I like the engine due to they are simple to work on and they are a fairly basic engine and there are plenty of parts suppliers for the base engine. There are hundreds of 200hp nanni engines and you only here of the bad ones and not how reliable they are.

My Ocqueteau 815 also has a Nanni 4.390 tdi , I bought it about 4 hrs ago with 350 hrs on the clock at time of purchase. Now 700 hrs runtime and it runs like clockwork. Serviceparts and spare parts are cheap and the engine can be serviced or fixed by any basic mechanic.
The engine 200 hp pushes the boats 4 tons with a cruise speed of 18 knots at 3300-3400rpm and make speed of 23-24 at 3600 rpm.

Hi,

I just bought a 2008 Beneteau Antares 760, and it has the Nanni diesel. I noticed that there is no anode at the end of the shaft (just 2 on the rudder and one on the bottom rudder bracket). According to the previous owner the boat never had an anode on the shaft, and the prop looks to be in good condition.

Is there a manual available for the 760? I could not find one, and it would help in case anything goes wrong. The boat has bow and stern thrusters and no trim tabs.

Cheers,

Raz

Hi, mine has the VP enging but that should not make any difference. I have an anode on the prop hub as well as one on the hull (on the right in this picture) bonded internally to the shaft.
