Dunno about that.Our grandfathers worked from age of 14 until just before their death for the same company...drank at the same pub went to the same seaside town....stayed with the same group of people all their lives.
My Grandfather's generation made their own outdoor entertainment, in the form of WW1, which taught him to fly and drop bombs on people.
My father's generation did something similar in the form of WW2, which taught him to drive a submarine and sink ships.
A bit of boredom isn't necessarily so tragic.
