Beer & Natter Cymraeg

Just arrived at Sea Rush to find a fairground on our berth! So that will be a nice quiet night then. Sorting ourselves out and will be in the Black Boy for 6:15 ish. It's raining ☔ ;(
Was a lookin for yer earlier and giggled
I knew the fairground was there, saw em building it earlier in the week:D

'Ribelious' the 'Aircraft' 7.85 is tucked up in Vick Dock
So you have a choice of bumping cars or bumping about the Strait!

Update, the rowing gig will be off the shore at Sarn Helen. That's over the footbridge by the castle and about 50 mtrs south to the park entrance still 3-5 pm. Kwakers ribribrides will still be from the marina or the adjacent slipway.

Really sorry to have to let you know that Duncan and I are back in Devon... :(

We left on schedule at 6:30 this morning and ambled up the M5, M6, M56 and A55 - approx 315 of the 320 miles to the A487 (less than half a mile of the Caenarfon road roundabout) when the front prop shaft failed, battering the underside of the car and smashing the underside of the transmission casing! Coasted to a stop, recovered the debris field from the road and called the AA whilst the contents of the sump escaped into the verge. We've been recovered home arriving back on an AA recovery lorry a few minutes before midnight and the boat and car now back in the driveway pending detailed assessment tomorrow. Still can't believe we got within a stone's throw and had to bail out after all the planning etc. :(

Gutted we didn't make it and will miss the event and meeting everyone after waiting and looking forward to for so long...

Steve, please PM me your address or that of the club and a contact there and I will send the cash to cover the meals.

Apologies once again - we'll certainly try again for the next one!

Yes, gutted indeed! We'll be back to do the Menai at some stage I'm sure, but was really looking forward this gathering and meeting up with so many virtual friends. Had a lot of sound advice and departed knowledge via these forums since we started with the boat and this promised to be a great event. Hopefully you guys won't be put off by us Southerners and will do another one soon! :encouragement:

With hindsight, we should perhaps have tried to get a tow into town, made the meet and had it recovered back on Sunday, but stuck at the side of the road in a less than ideal position you tend to take what's offered by the AA! One look underneath suggested it wasn't going to be a quick fix!

We're considering ourselves lucky it didn't go on the motorway as even at 50mph, that size lump of metal could have caused carnage. As it was, Duncan was out of the car and recovered the bits from the road before anyone hit them. There was traffic behind when it went so this slowed and seeing what happened, avoided the debris. Could have been so much worse.

I'm in the Black Boy, it's a bit cramped

Always is on a Saturday night. Peeps usually like a huddle of penguins with a pint grasped near chin level with both hands. tbhh most places 'on the circuit' are like that. If you want somewhere quiet try the Alex near Morissons.

btw. which one of you brought me this wonderful weather? Been T shirt weather for ages and winter coat was out today.

Were really devastated to hear about your episode RB. The weather was **** and the Gig trip was deferred, but Kwakers took 4 of us for a blast anyway. He was wearing a bump hat and visor, but the rest of us just huddled behind him.

The meal was lovely and we managed a final turnout of 29, with Dill Et Bound travelling furthest from Guernsey.

Thanks for organising a very enjoyable night Steve, you did the north proud. Great to meet everyone. We're currently having Sunday lunch in The Mulberry Conwy marina. Heads are too sore for the rib ride :)

Just arrived home after leaving the Marina at 0955 this morning:sleeping:

Thank you Searush for organising the event.

It was lovely to catch up with old friends and meet new people

I really enjoyed my dinner last night too.:encouragement:

It's a shame the weather was against us but we plan to return for a few days mid summer to explore the area further. The plan is to hire Kwaks and the rib to do a bit of exploring too.

May
Xx

It's a great part of the world and has whetted our appetite, so we will be back! Really sorry to have missed the gathering as that isn't so easy to recreate :( Although very disappointed, we both appreciate it could have been worse. There isn't much visible damage to the car other than shaft and gear linkage/gearbox sump and Duncan rescued the shaft from the road before it caused any damage to other vehicles. Thankfully it didn't hit the boat either, so all-in-all quite lucky - just a shame to be so close and have to be recovered home!

Great to hear that everyone enjoyed the event and please do let me know if we owe anything for food etc....

So, when's the next one?

A big thank you to all involved for a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. I had wayyy too much fun, far more than is civilised and I eagerly await the next gathering. It was great to put some faces to names and I am grateful for all the help I received getting Amanzi down there in the first instance and back out in the second. That was a first for me, getting through the Swellies and mooring up in a marina. To say I was nervous about it is an understatement. So a big thanks to Seastoke, Danfarry, TSB240 and Kwaks for getting me through it.

I took a few photos and vids if it's ok with people to post them up?

Just been reading back through the posts. Bad luck RBcoomer, to get so close as well. Full marks for effort though. The weather was **** Saturday anyway. Didn't seem to stop the RIB guys though, kept seeing them flying up and down the strait

Well Boys and Girls, here's my report onthe events over this weekend,

First the entrance into Wales:D

Have to say a great weekend from our hosts, “The North Wales Mob”.
Steve, an excellent evening at a very interesting venue Royal Welsh Sailing Club,

http://www.royalwelshyachtclub.org.uk/about-the-club/history/

Our thanks to you and that mad bar Steward Richard, for organising the do and the run out to the famous, or should it be infamous? Swellies.
Over the years, like fisherman story’s, the swellies were purveyed as monstrous seas that swallowed boats and crew whole without a trace of either to be found ever again, whereas dear readers, the truth is a tad different than those local old salts would have you believe.

The verbal description, image

Please allow me to first set the scene for those who were not in attendance to witness the event,

“Rib-ellious” was moored quietly in an almost ghostly stillness of Vic Dock Marina, not a soul to be seen, save a pair of weary long distance travellers who bid us welcome into their six wheeled bungalow and offered us shelter and a warming brew from the rain and the bitter cold of these foreign lands latitudes, I enquired have you come far? Yes, May said, a mile and three quarters from a very delightful campsite up the road. Having chatted for a while, with no sign of the indigenous people, we made our way back to our digs to dry and thaw out, we would not be beaten we would return later.
Later in the afternoon, I returned to find Col and Helen dressed for an Atlantic crossing with the Captain of Rib-ellious in attire that suits most black ops crews save no AK47, Steve and I, that made a total of five intrepid mariners I posed the question where are we going skip? Just into the estuary says he!!!!

WHAT? I’ve driven up here so’s you can take me up the river to see the Fun Fair, yous ‘aving a laff incha? Us softy suvveners have come up ‘ere to risk life and limb to do derring dos up the swellies.
OK says our captain, he puts Col into bat straight away, a yotist on the helm of the demon Rib-ellious, what was he thinking? Was it a ploy to make us bottle it? But no, Col just pushed the throttle forward and we were on our way to face death and destruction up the swellies! at 30kts plus, took no time at all, we approached the first bridge, slowed to troll speed, I peered over the side to see any sign of sirens or better yet, Red Dragons to slay, nuffink, not a sausage, OK perhaps between the two bridges a whirlpool of boat swallowing capacity then?

Yes Dear readers you’ve guessed it, I’ve seen greater whirlpools inside my captain’s 1800 spin washer on eco cycle, then we get the row of time tested old chestnuts, well it’s only neaps. It’s just on slack water, it’s raining, and it’s cold, along with a ploy to distract our attention, have you seen “our” Lord Nelson?

IMG_0417_zpsryb9f480.jpg

But not satisfied with not losing his softy suvvener crew, the alien lookalike Captain tried a second approach of keeping his pressed crew out long enough to turn them hypothermic and keeping the secrets of the infamous swellies secure, but that was foiled , dear readers by three jumping ship at the Fun Fair!

Rear view of Captain Kwak, tell me that's not the head of a alien being from another world?

The walls just to keep us suvveners out of their sailing club, bit over the top don't you fink?

A weekend spent with the North Wales Mob and their guests………………………………...........priceless!!!

On a serious note, thank you all for a great couple of days of fun and laughter,

We both thoroughly enjoyed your company,

David & Laureen.

Great report, thanks, I can see we'll have to show you the Swellies when Sailing boats daren't pass through. You are definitely no Southern Softie travelling all that way to get pelted with freezing rain at 30 kts.

Thanks for all the pic, keep em coming guys. But, David you weren't supposed to reveal the secret Hobbit cave entrance to our domain.
