I have just returned home to Guernsey after a week catching up with other forumites in the UK.
Epervier is right, the evening at the RWYC was priceless.
Rob, what a bummer... So near but so far..
I have to apologise Steve for not making it down to the Gig rowing on Sunday.
I got the car. dammed keyless entry, and popped back to the marina to see if Bruce was around and bumped into Kwaker, who needed weight for his Rib inspection.
I think we had just enough in the end..
Brilliant organization, Great company, and great causes.
For those who have never done the Menai, and Snowdonia.. Its a must do..
I found everybody so friendly and helpful that next year the Dourdgne will a be history.
Port Dinorwic. here we come.
Cheers everybody.
Ian and Maureen.
Ps.. The weather was nt a problem, I am used to rain on my holidays.
There were plenty of nice pubs to shelter in..

Well although gutted we missed the party, determined we'll be back! Hopefully meet everyone at the next one. ;)

Re Seastoke's comment on another thread: We had to push the Land Rover and boat into the drive from the road as the AA truck couldn't block the road to drop the beavertail into the drive and it hasn't yet moved far! I've winched it onto ramps to assess the damage (gearbox sump, gear selection and obviously the front shaft).

I'm currently working for an agency driving and couldn't be without transport (5am starts miles from public transport), so had to source a spare car in a hurry. Thankfully I had a free hire car for 3 days as part of AA cover (which I didn't know) and have since picked up a little Daihatsu Sportrak for a few hundred quid. Cheap to insure (new policy) and reasonable running costs - plus it will tow the boat! :D

As a result of the above, I was able to go and pick up a good used gearbox from Bath on Friday (£160) and a propshaft off eBay (£32). Have been busy today and worked yesterday, but next day off (Saturday) I will endeavour to effect a repair - assuming I can devise a means of lifting the transmission and transfer box etc under the car! I may also need to get a replacement X-Y position sensor as I think the one on the box took a bit of a hit, but that's about £35...

On the plus side, I guess we saved the boat fuel cost for the weekend :( and the car fuel for the return journey! (It actually only cost about £70 in LPG to get there - even towing the boat, so not bad for a 4.6 V8...)

Hopefully back up sometime in the summer.

Thanks for the updates, guys. I'm waiting for a couple of pics of the gigs from Colhel who watched us depart before setting off home. Taking pics while rowing wasn't really a practical proposition, and that whip bloody hurt!

How often should we have a beer n natter ,maybe ogary to answer this one,oh yes the bar girl asked could we let her know ,so she can swop shifts
