Duncan & I are planning on heading up Friday, joining a F/B Rib mob to explore the Menai and Conwy Saturday daytime and then joining up with you guys for the evening. We may then have a quick blast out in the bay past Caernarfon Bar early Sunday before heading back to Devon (assuming it isn't a 10' swell in the Bay!) We'll look out for the rowing gigs on Saturday however and wave. :cool:

Cheers for the info. A rough timetable is what I am trying to sort out now. I have very little idea how many might want to try out the Celtic gigs yet so your post is very helpful. There are quite a few people involved in launching & handling them too so they will need to know when to be available & how many will want a play.

I'm going to estimate half a dozen, which is effectively 3 boat trips with 2 novices per trip, so one boat could be enough. High water is around 16.00 bst so 3pm - 5pm is probably about best for the trips. If that's so then we can perhaps set 7.30 pm for the meal.

Have a very slow pootle round Puffin island for the seals & seabirds. Enjoy the Swellies too, it is a unique stretch of water. Currents are strong on the Conway & in the Swellies, just make sure you allow for it when making turns, quite a few have become croppers by not allowing for the water moving at 7kts or more.

Just to confirm that we're a definite.

SWMBO and I are waiting to see what the timetable looks like before she'll decide what activities she'd like to take part in.

If Kwacker is organising a RIB we're well up for that, don't know if I can persuade her to row a gig though.

It'd be helpful to know what time to arrive, and on what day, whether to book a MH site for Friday for instance, will there be any conviviality (i.e. YBW Forum members drinking) on Friday eve?

Do we have to confirm a place to park the MH near to the club, or will it be campsite only?

Thanks for making the arrangements so straightforward so far. :enouragement:

There is a free longstay car/ lorry park right by the Strait seaward of the Morrisons Supermarket. Ignore all the pay & display ones around the supermarket, the one you want is right alongside the straits. It is a hundred meters or so from there along the front, past the Dock, to the clubhouse. If these links work I will add similar to the first post as generic info for finding the clubhouse.

Just in the throes of setting up a timetable, but lots of people involved & I haven't any info from Kwacker yet. HW Saturday is 4pm BST, so the trips will be arranged around that if possible. Meal likely to be a 7.30 pm but not confirmed. I'm sure other stuff will "pop-up" ad hoc on Sunday too, much as it did on the Solent.

It's quite often used by vans overnighting - it's long stay so no-one will turf you off, & it's just far enough out of the way to not suffer from yobbos. I've seen vans parked in the Sarn Helen park across the River Seoint, but the skate park is noisy & the footbridge closes at 11pm. CHT don't encourage vans overnighting on the Slate quay, but I don't think they actually do anything about it, you would have to pay a per day fee for the 2 days tho & that could work out about a tenner. As a berth holder I get a free space on the slate quay & they know my van so I may well be on there.

Thanks. :encouragement: We're aiming to launch at Ty Calch - the rib guys have arranged a tractor etc and storage (Farm?). Hoping for a mix of leisurely cruise through the Straits, Puffin Island and Conwy Castle etc Saturday and perhaps a short blast around Conwy Bay. If we have time Sunday, we'll have a look the other way - guessing that's more exposed and will be a bit more lively? Some of the ribs are looking to do the run around Anglesey, but although we'd like to do that it seems a lot to take in and I don't believe there's petrol at Holyhead(?) so that would mean taking a fair load of fuel to allow for lumpy conditions and a generous reserve. We're keen to explore on this run and take our time as tourists! We'll come back again and do the long run - perhaps at next year's pub meet? :cool:

Pm Kwacker, his rib-ride company holds the speed record for circumnavigating the Island. It needs good planning & good weather plus the right tides to even get close to their speeds. IIRC it's about 50-60 miles. The Bar is only really a problem in SW5 plus & against the ebb. Quite likely to see dolphins out there & Llandwynn Island is a fabulous spot to explore on foot.

On the Saturday we will probably do a short trip out of the dock taking the flood tide through the Swellies to Beaumaris and then back to Caernarfon Victoria Doc on the Ebb. I will confirm likely timing later!

If anybody wants a slow return trip through the Swellies and take in the sights of Nelsons Column, Britannia and Menai Bridge, Bangor Pier, Beamaris Castle and Pier and back to Caernarfon please let me know.
Well stocked funbox and plenty of tea and coffee for the rare abstainers.
We might even get to do some leaning over sailing!
