Been banned from marina!!

I apologise in advance if the following statement offends but......
Are you sure your telling the whole story ?
Being escorted off and banned from the marina sounds a bit strong for merely making a comment.
For the record any fisherman who casts a 100' line deserves to get his tackle caught, if you see what I meen.

It sounds to me as if things got a bit out of hand and perhaps everybody needs a bit of time to cool off. I agree that behaviour which frightens a young child is completely out of order and I guess this couldn't have helped the overall situation.

Before getting heavy, my suggestion would be to give things a few days to cool off and then try to have a meeting with the owner where you can put your case to him in a civilised way and try to find out what the problem is. If he remains intractable then, I agree, you have rights to access and remove your property, and possibly to the provision of services for a further defined period, and you should make it clear that you will enforce them.
 
Are you sure it was the owner? It seems odd to me that the owner of a business that has just had £10m expansion planned was on Car Park duties for the LandRover show.
 
I suggest you phone and make an appointment to discuss the issue with the owner, keep calm and state your case and ask him why when you complained about the abuse you received, you were the one who got banned.
Did he realise that you are a customer?
 
I had a phone call from them this morning, in a U turn they have unbanned me but not given an apology. I was told they were "hot and tired" after a long day collecting money on the gate and that I had irrated them by distracting them from their business on the busiest day of the year.

I was pushy in my approach, but not rude. When I approached them I was told they did not have time to deal with my complaint. I told them I would appreciate it if they could take 5 minutes to talk to me, they got rude, I stood my ground and asked again for 5 minutes to discuss the problem and said I would stay there until someone could sort it out, they called security who turned up to get rid of me. I'm not the sort of person who can be brushed under the carpet and don't take too kindly to being told to go away because they are busy. I certainly don't tell my customers to take a hike when they bother me on busy days, it's part of running a business.

What really annoyed me was they were too busy to deal with the issue yet could spare 5 staff to remove me, my wife and young kids. Which seems to me to confirm they just did not want to deal with the issue.

That's exactly what I thought. But yes, the owner was stood on the gate collecting money.. He was very rude and did nothing but use the F word in front of our kids.

Although we have now been "unbanned" my wife has refused to ever go back. We have spent £10,500 with their business this year and I did point that out to the owner who just shrugged his shoulders and said so what.

I have managed to set up a meeting with one of the office managers for this Friday to try and get to the bottom of this, but won't be allowed to speak to the owner.
 
I don't know if you boat has shaftdrive, outdrive or outboard engine. Fishing line can get wrapped around the the bottom of an outdrive and cut through the oil seal. Thereby dumping all the oil in the leg into the marina, causing an evrionmental problem for everyone including the fish! Not to mention initiating some very expensive grinding noises from your stern.
This is why marinas like Port Solent ban fishing in the marina and within 100 meters of the lock, is not just the line that is currently attached to the rod that is the problem. Fishing line that floats and has been broken off due to some previous issue is the worst cuprit as there is no chance of seeing it.
Personally if the Marina owner doesn't care about this kind of problem and wants the money from fishing then I would take his attitude on board and start looking for another mooring.
 
In that case you are dealing with a prat. If it was me I would move my boat somewere else soon as possible. As for not being able to speak to him during this arranged "meeting" would you want to ?
Anyone who uses the F word in front of women or children deserves a smack in the teeth.

SimonA you have my sympathies. Moved out of a marina 2 years ago when new management came in and changed the rules overnight (just as the new mooring contracts were due for renewal).

If I were in your position I would get out as soon as possible and then name and shame - radio, TV, press etc.

Sorted, thought that might happen, don't take it any further, just accept their "apology" with good grace and let that be an end to the matter, pushing for anything else may aggravate matters and will get you nowhere.
 
why not get that publication about 'small claims court' - read it and assess your costs for a possible breech in contract by the marina.

its costs about £12.50, is a good read and more importantly, will give you a good litmus paper if you really really want to try to shaft him back.

I would imagine after reading it you may well just see it as an upsetting escapade, and judge in the cold light of day whether it is really worth the hassle.

forget small claims court or any sort of court.
I took a R. Sole to small claims court and won but an empiric victory took far more time in hours of hassle than it was worth.
Time to change marinas and enjoy boating, relax (elswhere)

As for fishing lines, I confess to towing a fair amount of gear away, you have to retain a smile no matter what happens, they dont know you can hear, just give them a friendly smile. You can not see line and even if you can in many situations you can not avoid it.
 
yup - that was my point ....... after reading the book it will give you a better idea if all the effort is worth it

however - if you are still angry enough to commence proceedings, and continue them, and attend court, then whatever the outcome it should put your mind at rest, allow 'closure' (yuk) if you will excuse the expression.

I'm going to forget the incident. It seems the ban was more an outburst said in the heat of the moment, not very professional, but it's how some people react to stress. The marina have since informed me I am no longer banned!

I am going to leave the boat where it is for now, I don't have time to go looking for new moorings due to business commitments. When the mooring comes to an end in November I'll look at the options or maybe even sell the boat. The whole episode has put my wife off boating for good.

I know it's easy for me to say this but I think you'd have been better just getting back to shore and phoning the police. If a threat was made against you then it's a serious matter and they have to take you seriously.

that seems a sensible way ahead - arranging a new berth at this time of year won't be easy, recovering fees paid will be more stressfull thn events already and they did take the initiative in calling you.
For the sake of the balance of the year etc I would follow up with a concilliatory meeting where you understand that these things happen (the getting hot etc) but the language used in front of children didn't help. You might shake hands first and, as leaving, politely mention that a bunch of flowers for your wife would do everyone the world of good........and see what happens!

Trouble is, that gives the signal that its OK to abuse your Clients and they will let you get away with it.

I'm sorry, but I disagree with you on this one. Too many times people won't stand up and be counted and this is just another example of deteriorating standards in customer care and service.

I would move to another mooring at a time convenient to me and then make sure that I did name and shame them in any way possible afterwards.

Bullies cannot be allowed to thrive and as another poster said, to use foul language and threats in front of women and children is the lowest of the low and makes me very angry.

Forget the marina owner, as someone said you should have gone over him right to the police, and if it happens again do just that.

You shouldn’t be put of boating by a few yobs.

They should be giving priority to the marina berth holders and not outsiders wondering in, maybe from the caravan sites, towns, or wherever, I would change marina to one who give priority to their customers and not outsiders wondering in..

Is there not some kind of commission for marinas that you could report them to...
 
It was not the marina staff or security who abused his child. It wasn't the marina who abused him, it was a few yobs. But the marina owner wouldn't do anything about it, because he was busy and probably stressed enough already and from what I can read, he already stood his ground and got nowhere or rather banned, the marina have now fronted up, maybe leave it now and move when he can. Doesn't sound the kind of place I would want to be anyway, never have liked caravan site/marina complexes.

I think changing marina (in due course) with a letter to them saying why you are leaving might send them a message.

10,000 is a lot of spend in a marina in a year, to spend that and get crap service in return is wrong.

also the police will deal with a threat to kill, espeically made against a small child.
