I have recently aquired a Jotron 9Ghz Radar Transponder & Jotron Emergency Beacon, both have expired batteries but work fine on test. My first question is Who do I contact, if I have to, to register the serial numbers to my boat, and second does anyone know if new batteries are available and from where ? Thanks for any help. Ed

Can't help with the batteries. Doesn't the manufaturer have a web site?
All devices that can transmit radio energy have to be registered with the Radio Agency on your licence. If you go to www.itu.int/ you will find the database (MARS) of every craft with a radio licence together with any devices like EPIRBS fitted. This allows the Search and Rescue to find out quickly who is in trouble which is the whole point of these devices.

Hi Ed,

The SART just needs to be listed on your ship radio licence. However, do you know what frequency the beacon operates on, if it is 406MHz it should be registered, ASAP with the EPIRB Registry of the MCA. You can give them a call on 01326 211 569 and they will send you the form.
