BBQ's onboard

Re: BBQ\'s onboard

OK as a BBQ'a'holic I have read the hype around these Cobb's and they certainly seem a couple of steps up from the disposables we use on the boat (on frames, in trays etc)

however 90 notes (lakeland) seems a significant investment - anyone got a bad thig to say about them?

Re: BBQ\'s onboard

Nice to know the builders reckon the rudder stops prevent damage. As you say, reefing early seems to be very necessary on the Stag, but it does mean they sail well in all winds when reefed the correct amount.
Cap'n Birdseye is a very friendly hulk who must take credit for the use of the cheapo BBQ, he's a bigger tightwad then me. He is also one of the most helpful souls I've come across and a very knowledgeable and able sailor. Good job he's not on the interweb or he'd be mortified. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: BBQ\'s onboard

Oops, didn't mean to cause offence- it was tongue-in-cheek as the camera has caught him appearing a bit downcast.

Unlike yours, ours was a fixed keel. Agree that they sail surprisingly well provided they are balanced - I always reefed as soon as it was needed and could claw an extra 1/2 knot by balancing her up. Very well finished and cosy below. Fond memories and weaned my wife into enjoying sailing. I've seen Flying Fox about in the Solent, will give you a call next time.

Good site btw

Goodness, didn't notice any offence, certainly none taken. Just between us, he's a bit of a hypochondriac, probably just burnt his tongue on a bit of stolen burger. (edit 'mortified' related to my praise of him)
Amongst many other factors, the cosy cabin was a big factor in choosing the Stag after many years in an Iroquois cat. Early and late season, with the heater going, settling into a softly gleaming wooden cabin is luxury. I'm getting old I think...
Please do call, but we frequently don't have the radio on, just too much traffic, although it does seem to be reducing a bit compared to a few years ago.

Re: BBQ\'s onboard

Hee hee!

My calls tend to be an alongside chinwag rather than VHF call, you'll be relieved to hear.

I have a great 10 min DVD of our ex-Stag going well under sail in Chichester filmed by my wife from our boat. Plenty of good shots from every angle and some close stuff. Easy to make a copy if you'd like.
