BBQ in the Solent ?

Hello all,

If this supersmashing weather holds for the weekend, I'd like to find somewhere I can anchor up - take the dingy ashore and have a BBQ !!

Does anyone out there have any suggestions for places in the Solent that would be any good ?

Welcome to the forum. Try East Head inside Chichester Harbour, but if weather is good you will not be alone.

Newtown Creek, you can anchor or pick up visitor mooring for which you may be charged.

I was about to say Newtown Creek, but to add that you can't land on the Eastern entrance Spit (cos it's a Nature Reserve) and that you are requested to barbie on the Western Spit but to do so below HW mark, to avoid disrupting the wildlife.

But a lovely spot - probably my favourite Solent anchorage.

Is NOTHING sacred anymore?

What have they done then?

Moved Studland Bay from Dorset WEST of Poole to the Solent "West of Yarmouth"

Or have they re-named Colwell Bay (which is mostly foul) or Totland Bay as Studland Bay.

Been away three seasons and this happens!

Any way apart from the REAL Studland (way off west) the choice in the western Solent comes from: Keyhaven, Sandhard (inside Yarmouth Harbour to the west) Newtown and maybe Osborne Bay now that beheading isn't the penalty for landing there (but lighting fires on Crown territory just might suggest Guido Fawkesical activity!)

No Newtown (on the west and below the waterline) but get in about 2pm or there will be "no room at the Inn" - but that's the solent for you - sail or socialise, not both!

Just what we were saying on Saturday. The days seem to be long gone when you could enjoy a full days sailing and then pick your watering hole for the night. If you want to spend a night in Yarmouth, or several of the other Solent destinations, you really have to dash straight from your home port and get tied up by early afternoon.

of course I meant Totland Bay OK? Anyway, sparks flying in Studland could be quite painful for some! An I want to keep Yarmouth quiet!

Sorry for the plug, but try troppo.co.uk and look for tightwad sailor...it lists most of the barbecue spots in and around the Solent.
