I used to look forward to this programme, but last night was a disgrace. John Surtees on the settee, the only 2 and 4 wheel world champ, totally ignored, ranieri embarrassed, Frank Bruno obviously ill at ease, why was he there at all, the world cup football team obviously had no idea what was happening, the awful "comedy" sketches, Wilkinson forced to walk out after his captain and manager, all so disappointing.

Yes it was the pits! The best bit was Matin Johnson whispering to Princess Anne that Paula Radcliffe should have had his second place, did him great credit.

Re: Blowers

>><'It was a bizarre experience.' - cricket that is. Having been forced to listen to the cricket on R4 at work by a boss who is a fanatical fan. I must admit that the commentary is far more interesting than the cricket itself, not knowing the game and it's terms it's all gobbledegook to me

Just remember that TMS is produced by the same people who create "Just A Minute". In JAM you have to talk for a minute and hesitation, repetition and deviation are penalised. In TMS one talks for several hours and hesitation, deviation and repetition (interrupted by breaks for fruitcake) are compulsory. Enjoy!

Re: Sport dumbing down radio...

Was this in Ireland? Well, wherever, being 'invited' to field non-stop would put anyone off. England is the name of the side. Scotsmen play cricket for England, the Welsh have a first class side. The Irish have provided the only international cricketer to win the Nobel prize. The tests are only broadcast on long wave - you can still listen to radio 4 on fm if you want - and the whole of the rugby world cup was broadcast on radio 5 live. Trouble is, John that if you lived in the UK none of it would be a problem. What's on France Info today? ;-) Cheer up
