Whilst out sailing on the Medway today there was only one other yacht sailing. It was a Bavaria, not sure of the length but about 36ft and I cannot make out the name. Any one know the owner then send me a PM with an email address and I will send the higher resolution photos.

Bavs have wire main hayliards -he looks like a pre 2000 variety though of a Holiday 35 maybe ? The angle reflects a Bav sailing without the mainsail down the track on the mainsail slider I suspect in a force4 plus.

Dunno the boat but he seriously needs to sort out that main ...........

is it that bad? could do with a bit of halyard tension and seems to be a bit of twist in the mainsail but difficult to tell otherwise. I cant really determine the angle of the wind.

Genuine question, not wanting to cause a rhumpus.

I once made it halfway to Ostende (back when) with my topping lift bar tight, it was only when we were overtaken i decided that something wasnt right. oh dear.

I wish i was sailing though.....

Thanks

It was the halyard tension or lack of to which I was referring

the traveller on a lot of Bavs is only as long as the main hatch is wide and doesn’t really make a huge difference.

Hi Nigel , I must be finally learning something (looks for smiley face emoji).
Take care everybody.

Good pictures though, i like that boat.
The pictures were taken on my iPhone SE 2020. I should mention I was also hand steering and singlehanded. I regularly take photos of other yachts, but not always as close or as clear as these. Most of the time I know the other owners and they love getting photos of their boat. All of these photos are exactly as they were taken and have not been altered or cropped.

How do you know if someone has an iPhone ?

They tell you :)
If I had my Canon digital SLR on board, the resolution would have been even better and I could have been even further away. None of the photos were zoomed on the phone camera either. Just commenting that a phone camera can produce excellent images, just keep it close to hand for easy use..

What also seems to missing here is a selden strut holding up the boom but slightly difficult to tell absolutely. While I agree the traveller track on a Bav might not be that long we do miss it having moved to a boat without a track . The other point is I think Bav headsails were probably cut with the Med in mind so if replacing it’s worth considering reducing the headsail area slightly if using in more northern attitudes such as those pictured. The photography on an iPhone is very good and perhaps easier to use than an iPad which also take good photos but best tried from deck of a ferry initially. It’s a handy feature of the navionics that you can populate with photos of your travels on the IPad .

The strut looks fairly apparent to me, but the boat doesn’t look as if it is close-hauled anyway, so the traveller, for a cruiser, may not be critical. Bags of that ilk will tend to heel somewhat and my friend’s 34 from a year or two later would have been reefed in that wind, though in flat water I suspect that most of us would just press on. I’m surprised that a boat of that size and vintage hasn’t got around to fixing the Blipper to the mast.

just done exactly that , 110% Genny

I was going to send the owner a link to this page, don’t think I will now!

Don't blame you.

If anyone spots a boat called "Rainbow" out on the water, please don't take any pics and post them here, i'd rather not have an internet post mortem for the boat and my sail setting skills (or lack thereof). ?(y)
