Battery terminals on opposite sides 😡🤬

If it's any consolation I ran into that problem when I sought to replace a dead domestic battery (one of two) with a second-hand but new-ish different brand of the same dimensions that a forumite happened to be selling at the time. Same terminal types and positions, but turns out +ve and -ve reversed, and limitations of existing cable length etc. meant that it wouldn't fit on the built in battery shelf.

I won't bore you with the whole sorry saga, but suffice it to say that after various bodges of cable and battery accommodation, even the purchase of a brand new battery to match and pair the second-hand one, following the surprisingly early demise of both of those while the boat was unexpectedly stuck ashore for several years, and various other complications, I am now minded to splash out and revert to the original battery brand and terminal arrangement!

The other day I swapped out two batteries in an awkward place....a job requiring a lot of pre planning to save my delicate back. When I got them in...to my horror I realized I forgot to check the terminal post position....and spent another half an hour bent in an unnatural position to reroute the wires.
Now I have another battery to change....but all the batteries with the exact dimensions I need have the posts in the opposite position....so now I have to go back to the boat to check if my cabling can stretch that far...before I can order them.

On my boat - Azimut 46ft, year 2000, the last owner did not do god maintenance for the electrical system: I have to replace the whole battery and charger system.
The whole energy system should power the boat at anchor for 2-3 days. For offshore I can use the generator to recharge if needed.

Based on various information I will not go for lithium battery systems.

I plan to use VICTRON charger for shore connection (32A) / KOHLER gen. output 220V, 7kW. All management components from VICTRON.
Whole system is 12V.

Why are you posting this nonsense. There is no connection apart from being about batteries between the 2 threads. Bouba was admittedly stupid in not checking the exact type of battery he needed. He definitely did NOT need any kind of professional help from a "battery" guy - just commonsense and maybe a photo on his phone.
 
Bouba get your lady to fit them , if you cock up and you create a spark and all the diesel in the bilge went up , you could end up in a ( CELL )
