Battery Terminal Nuts?

I bought some battery terminals a few years ago in Greece.

I wanted to change some of the wing-nuts for normal nuts, and assumed they would be M6 and M8. Metric nuts screw on for about one thread, then jam; I guess they are not metric.

Any ideas what they may be?

Nigel what is the reason for you wanting to change? Wing nuts look a great idea.

My batteries are at the bottom of the cockpit locker and I am moving them next winter as I need to be held upside down to gain access to them!

I wanted to put hex nuts on the terminals that link the batteries, but keep the outlets with wing-nuts.
