Morning all,

Does anyone know, or have experience of, 12V or battery powered IP cameras that are suitable for use on a boat (say looking at the stern when berthed for security) and inside? Ideally that can be monitored remotely via an app and record footage? Cost will of course come into it!

Thanks

DTD

for inside use you can re-purpose an old phone with the "AlfredCamera" app. Some care required to ensure the phone doesn't get hot when left permanently on the charger, but the two I use are OK. You can even remotely switch between front and rear cameras

As with all security cameras, what do you do when you spot a burglary? Will the police respond quickly enough, or at all?
Are there marina staff on duty 24/7?

I understand the limitations of such a system but still considering one.

So any thoughts on something like the Blink camera? Or a cheap alternative?

Check out online sites such as Banggood .... (forget Aliexpress / Amazon as examples - they are NOT cheap).

We use DVR's of tiny / small design in our model flying with various forms of comms feedback ... usually WiFi ... but there are various that actually stream using a PAYG sim, so you can easily monitor / record via your mobile phone / tablet or PC ...

They are not that expensive and the power requirements are often only a Mobile Phone charger so 12v or mains is not a problem.

+1 I use that app on an old phone as the camera and can view live or view recordings if motion detected using my normal phone. Works well.

I am always amazed at how much people are prepared to spend on gear when 9x out of 10 a little time spent searching online produces better or similar product for vastly less money ...

OP was asking for a CHEAP solution. So what about this >>>>>>

As example ... here's a search at Banggood for Smart IP cameras ... most with the same HD internals of the so-called branded stuff ... which in fact is often $10 chinese ...

As I posted earlier - I'm one of many who use such items on a regular basis for model flying and other outdoor activities.

I not only have 'spycams' from a fiver up to 50 quid, but also Soloshot 3 - the robot camera system that the camera pans / tilts automatically following a small GPS tag ... but then the SS3 cost over 500 quid (I have 2) .... I have GoPro's (personally I think they are grossly overpriced) ... SJ4000's .... 808's .... X3's .....

For real rugged outdoor DVR - the hunting boys have them designed for pegging to hides / trees etc. to record wildlife ... average price 40 - 50 quid ...
