Battery life (mobile)

I suspect the battery on my Motorola 4 is past it's best. Is there any easy way of checking. I'm considering fitting a new battery for a tenner rather than buying a new phone as it is satisfactory in every other respect.
I'm sorry this is not really a boating enquiry but I consider my mobile a (sort of) safety item when on my boat.

Its an old phone. The battery is bound to be knackered. A new battery is less than £10 on eBay. Cheaper than a new phone!

I've installed Accubattery which shows capacity is down to 86% so you're right, tudorsailor, but I thought if there was a cheap way of checking, I'd try it. Have you changed a phone battery? If so, where did you buy it, there are many options on eBay but how to tell which are best?

I have changed batteries on older phones. Now I have Samsung where one needs to take off the glass I take the phone a a place that I trust and leave it to an expert. What exact model phone do you have. I bet there is a YouTube showing you how to do the swap. As to which one to buy, difficult to say. Biggest capacity and best reviews are your guide
Or buy a refurbished Galaxy S7. Bombproof.

I'm quite happy with the G4 but buying off of eBay is a bit out luck. So I've taken your advice and gone for good feedback (although this is highly dubious). I've got one with free tools as I don't want to wreck the phone. Watched a couple of YouTube vids and looks easy enough.
Not totally convinced it's worth it for extra 14% capacity but what the heck.

I recently changed a battery on an I Phone6 which has inbuilt battery monitor. Before changing it was showing 85% capacity. While this would appear only 15% down on new I fitted a YONTEX replacement and the battery life is now 4 times what it was before. Ring tones and speaker volumes are restored and its like a new phone. Yours is not an I phone so I cant comment further but would recommend you buy a full kit with tools etc rather than just a battery as a lot of screws and components are tiny and delicate. Look on You Tube for videos.

I've bought the full kit for less than a tenner and have watched YouTube. I'll let you know when it's done and if it's made a difference.
