Battery Experiment.

A bit 'off thread" but recently I had to replace my batteries. I was tempted to go quality ( Trojan ) as in the long term and well looked after they offered great value despite the high initial cost.
In the end I went for relatively cheap batteries as the last set suffered some bad treatment from others in our group. So if you can't guarantee that your batteries will be cared for the cheap option ( and accept that you may have to replace due to neglect) may be the way to proceed.

Well I just finished the experiment.
I have to get the boat ready to move back out to the mooring tomorrow.

So I took the battery in to the auto parts store, I got it from this morning.
He pulled out a replacement . I put the NFG battery on the counter, The guy checked the date and asked if I had tried charging it. So I told him I had. What kind of charger, I told him and was informed. There no good. I advised him one cell was basically fresh water. No problem say's he.
I will take it in back and put it on our system. He came back a few minutes later. Informed me he had given it a burst of 25 amps. That will get her going. Come back in a couple of hours it could save you 180 bucks.
So back down to the boat, scrub some green slime and seagull shit.
A couple of hours later I returned.
He went to check. Came back and said it's not come up. Looks like its done.
He told me to grab another of the shelf.
He said I've never seen this before, an hour before closing time on the last day of the warranty. We are closed Sunday. If you had come in on monday you would be to late.

So of I went back down to the boat with a brand new battery. Bill 0.
