Nothing boaty but my son wants his little motorbike working. Last time i used the car charger and wrecked the battery. How should i charge it 12v 2.4Ah battery.

What type is the battery ??
Lead acid ? Gel? NiCd ? NiMH? Lithium ? something more exotic?
Does it not have a charger specifically for it ? Available as an accessory??
What does the instruction book say ?

If it's been left flat for more than a couple of weeks it's probably had it. A car battery charger will be fine as long as you disconnect it after half an hour or so, and by then there should be sufficient charge to start the bike.

Years ago we had a Halfords battery charger. It had two settings - car and motorbike, I've no idea why though. Don't know if they still sell them.

Forget what I said - a 12v charger is no use for a 6V battery. I've never seen a 6V battery on a motorcycle. I thought they did away with 6V electrics in the 1950s.

My old car has a 6V battery, but my 6V charger has died. Is it possible to drop the voltage from a 12V charger in any way?

If you have access to another 6v battery you could connect them in series to a 12v charger.

Are you all sure it is an internal combustion-engined bike or is it a child's electric one? If the latter it should have had it's own charger - my son's did.

6v wiring will be just fine at 12v - half the current. You'd have to change bulbs, coil etc.

Lidl are doing nice wee chargers for small 12V batteries for less than a tenner at the moment.

Can't you bump start the bike and run the engine to charge it up? (It's many years since I had to do this so please ignore this if it's bol****.)
