battery charging - mower

Depends on the type of battery, (lead, gel, l-ion) whether that voltage looks high.

Our dogs stand with head leaning one side listening .... then in they go ... surprised they get the moles ... but we still have loads of them.

During summer when lawn tractors are working - of course we don't see them - they go next door !

What type of battery ?

Typical alternator is about 14.5 .. 14.7V to get a battery to about 13.5V ... (Lead Acid)

I would guess your battery (assuming lead acid) is knackered. The regulators in most mowers need a load to keep the voltage down. 18.5 is a reasonable unloaded voltage.

Why are you charging a mower from an alternator? I would have thought you would plug it into the mains.
